Chargemaster Dispensing Question

My new RCBS Chargemaster combo came in the mail on Thursday and I've been playing around with it ever since. This seems to be a great little tool, but I am experiencing an interesting "issue" with the dispensing.

When I dispense with the hinged cover in place, the scale will read the proper charge. When I move the cover to pick up the metal tray, the scale reading will jump .3 grains. When measured with another scale, the dispensed charge shows .3 grains over as well. In other words, the scale is reading 40.0 grains with the hinged cover on, but is actually dispensing 40.3 grains. When dispensed with the cover off, in a room free of drafts and electrical interference, 40.0 = 40.0.

Any ideas? I'll probably just load without the cover, but am interested to see if others have seen this.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

I had this problem also, just ended up taking the cover off and problemo was solved. I dont have any movig airflow in my reloading area so I am not worried about the AC or Fans messing with the reading.

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

I had the same thing happening with mine and fixed it with anti static spray. Make sure you spray the draft shield, metal pan, and plastic piece that the pan sits on.

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

My chargemaster has been great. I used for 4000-5000 charges and the dispenser went out. I sent it back to RCBS and they sent me a brand new one. Mine is consistently accurate to a 1/10 of a grain when I confirm with check weights.

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

Don't know if that is an issue, as I always close the cover. When loading I set the chargemaster a tenth of a grain low of the target value and then double check each charge on an RCBS 505 before dropping it in the case. If the charge weighs two tenths low on the 505 I trickle up. If the weight is +/- a tenth I don't trickle. As it turns out I trickle up on 50% of the loads. The other half are within +/- my target value and can be used directly from the chargemaster. The extra step using the 505 may not be considered "Lean" or value added but it provides a level of confidence, as I am by nature risk averse...

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

I also had the same problem and checked the loads with another digital scale and found the weight thrown with the cover off matched the other scale, so I reload with the cover off. I will try the advice of the other fellow hide members with the anti static spray though.

Re: Chargemaster Dispensing Question

In the kitchen with all fans/AC off. Also shut off all fluorescent lights (under cabinet lighting) and cell phones.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
