Hey guys -

I'm looking to have a rifle built. I'm trying to decide between these two actions. Does anyone in the area have either of these ? If so, would you be willing to let me check it out ?

I'm looking for a short action. I heard the M2008 is difficult to cycle because of it's hard bolt lift and super long action cycle.

I'd just like to get my hands on one and see before I buy.

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer McCrazy. I wish I could make it to the match. It's on my list after I get some more practice under my belt. I'm kinda stuck close to home for the next few weeks.

Have you seen any issues with your buddy that runs a M2008?

I'm hoping to find someone in the Charlotte area that might have either of these so I could check them out.

I have a GAP Valkyrie .260 with the Badger action. I have not noticed either hard bolt lift or super long action cycle, feels fine to me. Mine is a Gen I that has been upgraded with the GEN II mods by Badger. I would not hesitate to recommend the Badger action. I had zero problems both before and after upgrade.

Honestly DVDT, I have seen a few M2008s but I don't own nor have I shot one.

One of my friends bought one and sold it before building a rifle with it because he thought it was a bit of a porker (heavy). I am also less than impressed that they have a GEN 1 and a GEN 2 that are not interchangeable with eachother or with other rifles apparently as far as barrels go.

I do like my Surgeons though as I have a 591 and a Round Action.

The Badger does weigh 1 lb 4 oz more than the Surgeon. It is $110 cheaper. I also have a rifle with the Surgeon 591 action which I also think is great. As is often the case these are both very good products. I like that the Badger uses AI AW mags and that you can replace barrels by using a go/no go gauge like AI. I like the fact the rail on the Surgeon action is a machined part of the action, not bolted on. You really can't go wrong with either. Good luck with your build.
