Hi all,

First post here . . . I have decades of experience shooting pistol and shotgun, but none at ELR . . . my end goal is to buy a 300 PRC rifle and shoot on the 1000 yard range near where my buddy moved to. That said, I have a 20 year old Savage 10FP-LE2 in .308 Win, and was curious what chassis / stock folks would recommend for it. I plan on adding good glass, using it as a trainer, and then moving on to a 300 PRC rifle once I'm proficient at 500 yards with the Savage.

While I would really appreciate chassis options for my 10FP-LE2, I would also very much appreciate 300 PRC suggestions. At one point, I was sold on the Bergara HMR, however, I've now read about a number of QC issues. So at this point, my search for a good bang for the buck 300 PRC rifle has started and ended with the 3rd Gen Ruger Precision Rifle. Any other suggestions? Thanks, guys!

Since you’re only shooting to 1,000 you can get away with much cheaper/less recoil options like a 6.5. Unless you want knockdown power for hunting or what not.

Take the money you want to spend on your savage chassis and either spend it on good glass which can transfer over to the new setup or save for the new setup. The money you spend on a decent chassis will be 1/3-1/2 of what your new rifle would cost you

Yeah, buying good glass upfront and then transferring it to the new rifle has been my plan from the start. Perhaps it's foolish to dump money into a chassis for the Savage instead of just putting that money into the 300 PRC, I'm not sure. It kind of depends how long I wait to buy the new rifle. Truth be told, I've been mulling over options for 6+ months now and have a crapload of match .308 on the shelf. Perhaps I should just throw a new scope on the Savage and see how things go.

I’ve used several on my savage. But honestly I haven’t shot the savage in many years. It’s worn a HS precision stock, B&C stock, Mcree chassis, Ashbury chassis and the last one I bought was a XLR Evolution. I picked up the folding evolution chassis in the px here for $300. Installed on the rifle a couple years ago and haven’t touched it since

If you watch the sale section here you see them come up once in a while. Just wait for one closest to what you want and save a decent amount of money on it. I consider the $300 XLR an excellent buy. I would never spend new mpa or mdt prices on this rifle though

Yeah, not a bad idea, I hadn't considered that. I wasn't looking to spend big money on kind of a temporary rifle. I had looked at the KRG Bravo, MTD Oryx, and even the MagPul Hunter stock. I've had the gun for over a decade, so some new furniture with adjustable comb and LOP would be nice.

I have the krg bravo on my Tikka CTR. It’s a very nice stock! Plus had every option in the book for accessories

Honestly, if I had to choose one at this point, it would be the Bravo. That said, I'd really want the PMAG's to function perfectly. You can buy 2 or 3 of those for the price of a single KRG AICS mag.
I run ctr mags in my tikka with the bravo. But I do run pmags in other AICS platforms. The pmag has been the least finicky mag I’ve used. In the several chassis I’ve had they’ve functioned excellent. I’m not sure if the bravo mag catch is adjustable or not.
