I'm sure this has been addresses before, but I can't find any threads on it.

I have a 700 BDL I'm planning to turn into a competition rifle.

My question is what are your opinions on A) new stock and DBM bottle medal or B) a chassis.

I see pros and cons on both. Would like for you to sway me one way or the other

Chassis is cheaper, more adjustable, and drop in.

Stock is usually lighter but ends up costing more, once you bed it, buy the DBM, etc.

Option three is a Manners stock with a mini-chassis.

If you want a comfortable rifle that fits you for the lowest price, get a chassis. If you want to save weight above all else and price doesn't matter, try all the Manners stock shapes and decide which one you want and have your rifle built around the stock. If you want the traditional feel but advantages of not having to bed and want the ability to use multiple barreled actions in one stock, get the Manners of your choice with the mini-chassis.

comp gun......really??don't forget the krylon....to make it all snipery, you'll need a fat checkbook and then there is the glass .....for yet more deeper pockets are required,

oh but i prattle on......................

The only thing that makes it a 'comp gun' is the muzzle brake. ;-)

I've always preferred a more traditional bolt gun with a McM on it. Not too long ago I set a gun up with a McCree chassis, and I was surprised how easy it was, and how little trouble it offered. The mags lock up in it perfectly, and I can run that bolt handle like an angry gorilla all day long. And..... it's immediately portable to any other short action gun I own.

It is sorta apples and oranges and you would want to try both and see what you would like.
Tylerw02 makes good arguments.
For a compgun to throw around, a chassis like Mcrees is hard to beat. It's cost effective, no fiberglass to chip off, and you
can make it fit to you.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm trying to convert to DBM as cheap as possible without compromising quality. That way I can spring for good glass.

By competition gun I was just meaning lots of reloads so mags would be 1000X better than loading each round in my BDL

Your right they both have advantages and disadvantages. You need to find what works best for you. There is no "best", if that were the case we would all be running the same rigs.

I like manners with the mini chassis, Mcree and the XLR carbon chassis. Some have somethings I like better about them than the other and some have things I dont like but all work equally well IMO. Its pretty much personal preference.
