Cheap/reliable red dot for son's 10/22?

I bought my son a 10/22 for his seventh birthday and would like to put a cheap, but reliable, red dot on it. He does OK with the iron sites on his Henry mini-bolt, and does really well with the Nikon on my .22 40x. The 10/22, however, is "his" first full-sized rifle. For the moment (and at least with this rifle), he will be shooting mostly 25-50 yards, so I'd like to try a red dot on this to see how he does.

I looked on SWFA at the various options - BSA, Barska, Tasco, Millett, etc. and, without any experience with them, it's hard to tell them apart. I'd like to stay under $100. Any recommendations?

Bushnell makes a cool one around that price range. Maybe a little
more. You can change the reticle to four different shapes, and change it
from red to green as well. Any up and coming shooter
should love those way cool features.

Go to walmart...look at the BSA red dot for $40.00 or the Centerpoint for $50.00. I have used both with great results.

I have a TruGlo on my Rem 870 that I Kryloned and turned into my dedicated turkey/coyote gun. It works excellent and was only around $55. I also have a Bushnell Trophy red dot on my Benelli SBE slug gun that is also excellent and cost around $90.

I have an old BSA that I bought for $30 a few years ago that still shows no signs of weakness.

Oh I forgot to mention I cracked my Truglo about a year and a half after I bought it and when I contacted Truglo and told them I bought it from Cabelas they told me to just contact them because they will just reimburse Cabelas for replacement. Cabelas gave me a return number and within two weeks I had a brand new replacement no questions asked. I thought that was super customer service on both companies part.
