Night Vision Cheap Thermal Clip On

Gentlemen, I have several higher end thermal clip ons and started a new rifle build and don't want to spend too much just for the clip on at the moment. Would like some advise and comments on the units below. As background the non thermal optic on this rifle build is a Trijicon 5x50 ACOG with no adjustment so I am not sure how the below thermal clip ons would be in this combination.

1. AGM Rattler TC19
2. Liemke Merlin 13
3. InfiRay CTP13

I am almost certain the Liemke 13 and I InfiRay 13 are the same unit. Any comments about these units would be appreciated. Not looking for super long distances but need to consider the 5x magnification on the Trijicon.

Hi Bri0242, I had a Steiner C35 and sold it a while ago. Should have just kept it I regret selling it. It is a decent clip on for sure, but I am thinking to keep this less than 2k and still be functional if possible.

Isn't one of the selling points for buying a clip on the point of being able to swap it onto other rifles ?

Yes it is, but of the three thermals I have now two are clip on. And one of those is not with me at my main house it is at my cabin, and that leaves only one. So wanted a cheaper backup for the current build.

I know I'll take a lot of crap for suggesting this, but what if I tried to mount the Breach as a clip on. I checked by hand holding the Breach in front of the ACOG and it isn't too bad from what I can see.

I know there will be questions of recoil damage etc and if the picture aligns.

Was thinking what if I use this:

Or am I overlooking a better mounting solution for the Breach to rail mount in front of the ACOG.

Again, I know this is not an ideal usage of the Breach but want to try it out since I have one already and just can't figure out a mounting solution. I also thought about those Burris eye coupler adapters but the back of the Breach will likely not fit one of those couplers.

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated even though as I said I know and understand this may not work and is a ghetto rig.

Yes I understand Kirsch. I remember in the settings of the Breach i can move the screen around somewhat. Not sure if that will help the collimation. I will play around with it in the coming days when I have time and report back.

You are totally wrong. Flir Breach works great as a short range clip on.

Menu has margin adjustments and you adjust the diopter just like a MH 25 or Skeet.

Ok, use this to hook up to the Breach dovetail mounting slots. You will be able to get 3 Crossbolts to tighten up for the length of the Breach Dovetail. You now have it converted to go to Picatinny. You saw off the excess with a hacksaw.

Now you have an excellent short range light weight clip on. I run these in front of 1x Primary Arms Cyclops. Great out to about 150 yards depending on size of the critter.

Perfect optical train alignment and really good RTZ once you get the Breach all dialed in for a specific rifle. Hecque the front objective cover on the Primary Arms Cyclops slides forward a couple mm to form a perfect seal between the Breach Ocular and Cyclops Objective such that there is zero light pollution emitting from the setup.

Saw off the about 2.5 picatinny sections (flush with the AMD Mount) on the adapter that mounts to the Breach and you have a very clean and easily used solution.

Regarding the Flir Breach-Primary Arms Cyclops set up. Putting the Breach on Arctic and running the Cyclops without the reticle illuminated gives outstanding contrast. The Horseshoe of the Cyclops gives great close range instant on critter and the finer Chevron gives precision out at longer distance. Best of all worlds for a short range Clip On. Super light and compact with great contrast.

The Arctic Palette pretty much washes out the terrain in blue and all live critters stand out very well (orange outline of critter with body filled in with glowing white hot) when you have your gain adjustment set correctly for the emissivity conditions.

Excellent contrast for running critters which is where the rubber really meets the road so to speak.

I don't know if using a product in a way totally different for what it is intended to do and even rated for should be to know better. I am not in sales. I test thermals and report to people my experience with using them and typically offer solutions that will work well for them.

You made 2 very specific statements in the sentence above that are blatantly incorrect. I just pointed the fact out that you were totally wrong.

The company you are a "Product Specialist" for actually sells the Breach. For you not to know that the margins can be adjusted (aka adjusting the screen - which allows collimation) that you stated could not occur in the Breach indicates that you are not really that specialized in the features some products the firm you represent sells. Also, it's not like a Breach is a new product. It's been around for quite a few years now so as a product specialist one would think, you should know these features if you are going to use the title "Product Specialist" that infers special understanding of devices and then make public statements about those devices.

Hecque, I am just "Joe Shit The Rag Man" and all I had to do to know the margins can be moved was to read the manual. No magic there. Actually quite rudimentary.

When I made the statement, "That is what I get for answering a question on a topic or a solution I have not tried", I wasn't meaning I have not used a Breach. Yes, I have used the Breach. I meant I have not tried to use the Breach as clip-on as this is not the designed use for this device.

As I read my comments, I realize I did make it sound like there is no way to move the screen. I am aware the margins can be moved. If the margin adjustments allow perfect alignment and collimation, then great, and I hope for everyone using it this way, it handles the recoil and has all the features you need for a clip-on.

@tangokilo The one thing I am not sure about is how well it will work with 5x magnification as I run a 1x behind mine. Also, I am not familiar with the Optical Center Height of the Triji Acog. ADM offers several different mount heights that will fit the Primary Arms Gen 1 Cyclops which made it easy for me to get the Optical Center Heights of the 2 devices matched perfectly.

The Breach FOV is 24 Degrees Horizontal x 19 Degrees Vertical which provides a nice wide FOV for closer work. However, I suspect you would lose a bunch of that wide FOV when running a 5x day optic behind the Breach.
