I've got a 30BA on order and have the brakes waiting to be put on two rifles. I've read around that it's a good idea to put the thread protectors on them when shooting w/o the can to keep the threads clean, etc.

Im wondering if there's a cheaper alternative? I can't wait to get the can and I've read a ton of amazing things about the company, but dang, they're pretty pricey. It seems like most other cans come with at least a pouch or something.
With TBAC you pay for the can, then you pay for the brakes, then you pay for the protectors...
At some point I need to start finding a way to go the cheaper route. Is there one for the protectors or do I really need to pony up $35 per brake now?

You can always just buy one and use it on the brake that you are shooting at the time. When you look at the cost of even a normal threaded muzzle thread protector I think you will see that that price is very fair. It takes time, material, equipment costs, electricity to turn these out which equals money and overhead costs.

The price seems reasonable to me. Not all come with a protector, the threaded HK pistols I have didn't come with them, but my Tac Ops rifles did.

I don't have an alternative to suggest, just my experience.

Interesting.

To me, only $35 seems really cheap for a thread protector, (especially when I think about machining one myself).

I definitely understand. This is my first can and I see a lot of other people talking how their can came with such and such (brake, pouch, etc). Buying the can, plus the extra brake, plus the protector, plus the possible wrap, I was just hoping to save a few bucks.
Buying the one seems like a valid option. Won't exactly be shooting the guns at the same time.

No, you're definitely right, $35 isn't bad. It's after I added it all up, it got pricier than I had figured.

I'm still counting the days until the form gets approved (going to be a looooooong time from now) but was just looking at options. Thanks all for chiming in. Guess I'll order one now.

The external thread protectors are by no means necessary. The external threads on the BA mounts are fairly well protected by the large shoulder behind them so it's relatively hard to damage them, and we have never had a problem with carbon fouling from shooting unsuppressed cause a problem when threading the can back on (not to say it couldn't happen but we haven't seen it).

All BA cans do include one brake...

$1300+ for can, I think $35 is worth it if it protects my investment
Yeah, I was thinking it was an additional $70 on top of the can and two brakes, just to shoot I suppressed (read something about how carbon fouling can make attaching the can a pita). Again, I'm not complaining, just wanted to see if there were cheaper options. The answer it seems - $35 is cheaper than $70. Sometimes the answer is that simple, it just took someone else pointing it out. Thanks again everyone.
