Want to start with, I used to be on here a lot 10-12 years ago, but got it to building rock bouncers and trail riding, and got out of hunting and shooting all together. Trying to pick it back up, to have a hobby I can do more than once a month. A lot has changed a lot, more value based optics, out of the box long range guns, and tons of new cartridges, I have been reading on here, trying to get up to speed.

So what I'm wanting is some cheaper or used scopes in 3-500 dollar range, with ffp, zero stop mil/mil.
I have an Area53 ar10 receiver set that, I want to build in to a nice 6cm, so not trying to spend a lot on my other guns currently, after the ar is done may build a custom 6.5cm in a chassis. I also have to get new chronograph, range finder, and may get a kestrel with ab, since strelok is gone now. I sold all my stuff years ago.

For my armalite. 223, I'm looking at Atlon helos 2-12, vortex venom 3-15, used pst 3-15, or Burris rt 3-15
It currently has a primary arms 4-14, but no zero stop.

Other gun is a 6.5cm,savage action, criterion barrel, manners t5a. With older sfp vortex.
Looking at strike eagle 5-25, venom 5-25, viper HD 5-25, Used athlon ares 4.5.-27, or any other that might fall into that price .

Last year I bought a Athlon Helos G2 4-20 which I recommend for the large frame. It's a good combo of the awesome APRS6 reticle, short-ish length, and at mid weight.

Definitely the Helos G2 2-12 for the small frame. If I didn't think I might actually appreciate needing 1x at some point this is what would be on my 15" AR.

Keeping it short they both have good turrets lacking much lash, have a distinct feel, marks line up well, and are a nice size. IQ of glass pretty good as well.

If you are in cheapish territory, Athlon is where I would look.
May have to give them a go, want to spend most of my funds, on the ar10 build, is why I'm not trying to spend much on these. They shoot fine now, just want zero stop on the ar, and ffp on the 6.5. And I got to buy a set of tires, for the buggy, this year, at 1k a tire.

Look into the vector optics gen 2 lineup. Excellent glass and surprisingly affordable for what they're offering

Got both of my sons-in-law AR's for Christmas. They're young (and broke) and work their butts off to support my daughters and grandkids... And even if they saved up they would probably never buy their own.

I set them up with functional firearms equipped with irons and all the knick-knacks to clean and maintain them... Mags, ammo, upgrades, and optics are on them.

So they were obviously excited and started researching optics and started asking me questions...

So I started researching. And near as I can tell... Even the bargain basement stuff is getting more decent.

The main gotcha seems to be inconsistent quality across a particular choice. If you order from Scamazon you might get a winner... Or you might get a Friday afternoon/Monday morning built specimen...

Then again, I'm not too sure Chinese children get weekends off.

It also appears after a LOT of looking at different brands and models... They all look like they're made in the same factory in China. There are different knobs, reticles, mounts, etc... but optics in a particular class all seem to be made from the same base model. That's everything from no-names you've never heard of and some of the better known names who offer a Chinese optic.

I would rather have all vortex or nf, but for these 2 I'm not to worried about it, as long as they hold zero, and track good. Just can't justify it for the 223 that gets throwed around and an old savage that I want to replace with a good custom 6.5 at some point, I haven't shot either of these 2 in 6-7 years. Once I got into rockbouncing, pretty much quit shooting, minus keeping the turtles and snakes thinned out in my pond, with a 22.

This is kinda of feeling it out if I want to dive back off in it, if so I will start building some nice guns, probably won't get back into reloading though, plenty of good match ammo out there now.
