airguns are great for small game--the newer PCP guns have extended the accurate range considerably--I like them cause U can order them with a can installed and work great for suburban
pests w/o waking the neighbors---also great for practice as a tin
of pellets is inexpensive compared to regular firearms--I would own 1 for larger game if they didn't cost as much as a GAP for
the great ones

I always love going to the range with my air rifles. It is always great to see the look on peoples faces when they find out that the rifle you are shooting is an air rifle.

Then they always poke fun at the "bb gun" that guy is shooting. Then they come over and try and it, and they are instantly hooked. Then I can never get them to let go of the "bb gun" so I can shoot my rifle again.

I had a Career 9mm PCP once.My final conclusion was that at those power levels I would rather just use a firearm.It would drain a scuba tank way faster than I was comfortable with and I'd have to fill the gun every 6 shots.

I see the purpose in a bigbore air rifle but it just wasn't for me.

A 22 cal FX revolution is my most used gun.It's a 12 shot semiauto PCP.I use it for vermin and plinking steel out to 150Y.

I've had several experiences like yours.

In fact I just got a call last week from my 80 year old childhood doctor who I happened to run into last year.I had invited him to a Field Target air rifle match.He shot well and must have been a lot of fun for him.He was exited to tell me he bought a new PCP and scope and wants me to get him all sighted in,LOL.

Modern precision airguns can rival modern precision rimfires out to 50 yards easily. This crow/blackbird was taken down at 87 rangefinded yards. Hunting with airguns offers more opportunities than hunting with powderburners. They are quiet, safer, and can be used in places where using of a rimfire is out of question...For pest control situations, especially around stock animals and equipment, a high precision airgun is the best tool for the job, whether it's a rat, pigeon, possum, or a coon...

Nice looking HW you have there man

I am still upset that I sold my BSA Sportman HV. Was able to take vermin out to 100 yards with nothing more than the small ping from the tank.

Too many questions come to mind. First of all you need to realize that there is more than one powerplant for airguns. What is on your mind and what is your budget? Hunting, competition, plinking only? Be advised that some air rifles cost $2500+. If you go the PCP route, keep in mind that you will have an additional expense on recharging equipment...

Hi Adam,

For a spring gun I'd recommend a AirArms TX200.It's a very well rounded rifle and the go-to springer at FT matches.I'll compare it to the TRG22 of springers,LOL.

For PCP(charge it up with a scuba tank or pump)with bang for the buck in mind the BSA Lone Star is great.Nothing like a BSA scope BTW!!! I would of told you to get a Benjamin Marauder but they've been putting on some crappy barrels lately.However if you got one and it didn't shoot well you could have it tuned and a match barrel put on it like this one.

Like someone posted above...you can spend upwards of $3500 on a air rifle if you wanted.

If you want something small, and quiet, take a look at the Crossman 13xx pistols. There are a few good companies that make upgrade parts for them. And with an "LDC" on them, they are mouse fart quiet.

I am currently using a FWB 300 as my critter getter....

The rifle was $500, not including the shipping. This rifle was used by olympic shooters before the PCP's started to take over. It fires a .177 cal pellet at 650 fps, and can take critters out to 30 or so yards. Shot placement is key, with this rifle, so as long as I can get a good shot on the head then it is all over for the critter.

Great gun, and very quiet as well, being a spring powered rifle and all.

Those FWBs can shoot no doubt!

Here is my .25 Theoben Rapid project I have just finished. 60 FPE @ muzzle, paint job, trigger mod (11 oz.), quick-fill mod, and a full length shroud. We have compared this one with a suppressed .22LR at the range and this airgun is virtually silent out in the open compared to the rimmie. Still need a scope for this bad girl...

Yeah, the Feinwerkbau(FWB) 300 models are incredibly accurate. I think 550fps is more of the normal velocity for them. Mine is right at 525fps and insanely accurate. I am a silhouette competitor and shoot my FWB 300s in the basement at 40' for practice. Like Woogie Man said, they were the shit in 10 meter Olympic competition back in the 80's. Mine was used across the pond and still has all the German rifle team stickers on it, and the previous competitor's name tag. I've thought about refinishing it but I think I like all the history on there. Would be neat to track down the competitor that used to own it.

Thanks. Barrel is 24" and all the work is done by Steve from PAG. Not sure about 200 yards, hehe, but 150 is not a problem.

Yeah the 525 is more of a standard fps for these rifles. Mine had an upgrade kit put in it at one time down the road.

These things are just a pure pleasure to shoot. Though the PCPs are just as fun to shoot as well.

If you guys have any thoughts about shooting some of these, go for it! I can just about prommise that you will be hooked in one outting

I forgot to mention the CZ200/S200 line of rifles.I think Daisy carries a rebranded version.They are small,light and can be had in a youth version "I think".
