I find better control of the tool pulling instead of pushing regarding the tool slipping. As far as seeing what's going on, that's probably personal preference, but I actually like seeing the tool coming towards me instead of going away. My tools have a bent shaft to form a window aft of the tool so "seeing" is easy either way. Some tools have a "split" shaft for the same reason. To each his own.
