Would like some advice on what kind of chronograph to buy. I've been reloading for several years now and figured it would be neet to find out the velocity of my loads in my guns.I reload for rifle and pistol if that makes any differance. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: chronograph shopping

I've owned Competition Electronics and PACT. I've used several Chronys and two Ohlers. Excepting the Ohlers, all came in second to the CED. Could not detect any difference between CED and Ohler.

Re: chronograph shopping

I shot holes through two $80 Shooting Chronys before I bought and shot a $100 Pro Chrono.

I am on my second $100 Pro Chrono [4th chronograph]

Pro Chrono

All chronographs are 10X more accurate than needed, but the Pro Chrono always triggers, and the Shooting Chrony does not.

I have stopped shooting over handguns, and stopped shooting chronographs for the last two years.

I think you need a piece of AR500 plate or ballistic glass

I have clipped front and rear rods on my $99 red chrono (it works good)

Re: chronograph shopping

Really, any chrono is a little work to get set up. It packs up ok. I have a dedicated bag for it. The box it comes in will work for the main unit, but when you add the IR screens and battery packs, it's too small. It's just one more thing to take to the range.

F that! Too much molla for what you get.

35P rocks if you can find them and worth every penny.

Another vote for the CED M2. In terms of setting up, it takes probably less than a couple minutes to set mine up. Storage and packaging, it sits nicely in my small dufle bag very light. It's quite accurate. I have chrono every thing from 223 to 50 BMG. No problem.

Re: chronograph shopping

I have a Shooting Chrony. Overrall I like it, there are better ones out there, but the price is right. I like the remote digital display as it makes recording numbers shot to shot easy. However by making it have compact storage means the screen is a 3 piece snap together unit with two piece steel legs. These are a pain in the butt to deal with and sometimes pop apart on you making a frustrating range day as you wait for a cease fire to put the unit back together. I think I'm going to bypass the compact packaging size and glue the screen pieces together and crimp the legs together to make life easier.

Re: chronograph shopping

I ordered a CED M2, I checked out a few forums and read posts about the different ones as well as some online reviews. There are a few that are a little cheaper, low 100's but they all seem to have more problems and difficulties with them as well as having less options. I figured spending another $70 to get the best in this price range was worth it for something I'l be using for a long time.

Good choice! now when you free up some more cash in the future, order the IR screens and battery pack and you will have a bitchin setup.

Re: chronograph shopping

Neconos PVM-21.

Infrared light screens, 280-6500fps, computer interfaced, remote control allows you to operate multiple chronos, best unit on the market bar none.

Re: chronograph shopping

I found my Oehler 35p at a gun show for $190.00 about a year ago.I looked for a long time, finally found one. Had to make a stand for the skyscreens, about 30 minutes of work in the shop. Pete

That's $750!!! The CED M2 is $200.

Re: chronograph shopping

I have had many, many chronographs ranging from $100-$800. I've accidentally shot them with arrows amd bullets. Once I got so pissed at one of the pieces of shit that I owned I put a 190smk through it. No other shooting accessory has given me more grief then the chrony and they still do. I presently use 3, a ced, 35p and a pvm-21. Although they all work and work well each has its individual quirks, (much like people). Is the PVM the coolest? Yea. Is it any better then a 35p or the ced? I don't think so. I have the ability to basically shoot indoors so the sun's angle has no effect on the 35p and being the ced and pvm are infra reds they work in any condition. If I were going to reccomend one of the 3 that I have, it would be the ced with the infra red. It's consistent, ya can't buy 35ps and the pvm is, well I don't know I'm still working out the bugs, as is the manufacturer.
