Chronographs, whats good??

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

Team B has 1 Oehler 35p, 2 CED M2, 1 Competition Electronic, and 1 Chrony Chronie Beta Master, I just replaced the Chrony with a CED M2, I never trusted it, ChadTRG42 has had his CED for some time, CKA is talking about replacing his CE with a CED M2, toddacguy has the Oehler but I have never used it, from all reports I have read the CED is the a good choice, Ohehler is the standard, I left out the NECO PVM, because I have never seen one.

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

Oehler 35 if you want to spend the bucks and want a little bulkier bunch of equipment. otherwise, the best bet is the CED M2, which I tend to use more than the Oehler that I also have access to.

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

Depends on how often you use it, and what your using it for. If your trying to eek out every bit of accuracy from your loads and need a chrony that will give you the kind of precision required to compare ES and SD (accurately), I would do the Oehler with the 3rd "proof" screen. I have owned a Oehler 35, didn't use it enough to justify the cost, sold it for a PACT, it failed twice, so I picked up a cheap CHRONY Alpha, it works great for what I need.

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

I have a cheap Chrony Beta that I use and I also have my freinds Ohler 35P. I have shot thru both of them at the same time (set them up and back to back. My cheapo Chrony was about 20fps lower than the 35P I figured that it was because it was setup 2 ft behind the 35P. Anyways I think a Chrony would suit most peoples needs.

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

recently I've done some test to check chronos accuracy and correct muzzle velocity using all the protocol test suggested in FFS, with a friends of mine we are used 4 ( four ) PVM 08 in series near the muzzle and then 2 near the muzzle about 8 meters, the other one at 200 m and the last at 300 m.

the final result was very good, each chrono gave a correct value, and proportional to the other one

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

I have used a Shooting Chrony Beta Master, or is that Master Beta? At any rate, for my uses it has worked well and given accurate readings based on chrono testing factory loads that were run over another chronograph for comparison. I like it because it works and it wasn't a ton of money. So when I shoot it I won't be upset. I had a friend shoot a screen support off of it the 1st day I had it but other than that it's been all good.

Re: Chronographs, whats good??

I use an Oehler 43 equipped with both muzzle and target screens - an outstanding unit. Unfortunately, I saw they are MD (manufacturer discontinued). I cannot say enough good things about this unit - Ken Oehler knows ballistics!. You do need a laptop with a bright screen.
