Do you guys unscrew the brass bore brush everytime you push it thru and then pull out the rod then rescrew it on and brush the bore again?

Seen some manufactures recommend cleaning the barrel this way like Noveske and a couple others so you dont damage the crown...

I have never done this before in 6 years with my M40A3 and havent lost accuracy....??

Re: cleaning tech question

I think some manufactures say to remove before pulling it back out so you don't run the RISK of damaging the crown... not saying it will or wont damage it....

IMHO ... clean slow and use a good rod and brush... I don't remove the brush each time but I also use Dewey rods and nylon brushes.

What T.C. said

I've heard that you shouldnt run the brass brush back through the barrel, but, that nylon is ok. Again, good brush, guide, and rod is the key, either way

+1, I use a Dewey rod and Nylon brush also. Stay away from the stainless steel brushes (they are silver and look like they are braided). Most brushes are entwined with aluminum so I really do not think it will damage the crown, being steel is harder than aluminum. If you use a cooper removing solution, like Sweet's, you will want to use a nylon brush.

I run a bore snake to get the excess powder out before and after shooting. I use a Bore guide, Dewey Rod, brass jag, and a nylon brush with Shooter’s Choice every 100 rds with my 300 WM, and every 200 rds with my .308. Fouling is good, cooper and powder residue bad.
