So I've been searching Google for the better part of the afternoon trying to find a clear cut answer and I'm not coming up with anything. An elderly gentleman has asked me to try and sell 2 red fox pelts for him. My first question is if the hides have been tanned are there any licenses required to sell the hides? Does the person buying them have to have some kind of license? Then, where do I sell these things? I've heard of some auction in Globe, AZ but I don't want to have these things cluttering up my house until the next sale. If they were posted on a site like this, what is the rule for shipping them? They are all tanned out so it's not like there is bodily fluid or material to infect anything.

Thanks for your help

I am not an expert by any measure. But I have been told that selling game meat is illegal unless you have some license or go through the proper channels, might be similar when it comes to pelts.
I think your best bet would be to call the division of wildlife in your area and ask them, a local taxidermist may also know.

The fur buyers don't usually buy until Feb-March. Fur market is weird, sometimes I drop off certain animals at a guys house who then cleans the pelt and gets sales. Do not think that just because you heard red fox is bringing $XX or $$$ a pelt makes it reliable. It is what the foreign markket wants and that is where most pelts go - China and Russia.
