I apologize if this has been discussed already but i did try and use the search (which is about useless)

I have an AR SBR in .223 that I was thinking about converting to .22 for practice. I hear CMMG 22 convo in stainless steel is the way to go. Anyone tried one? thanks

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

A buddy of mine and I both have the conversion in Colt HBARs, and they run just fine. Have not run thousands of rounds yet, but the few hundred I have shot so far has worked well. CDDN has pretty good pricing, that is where I got mine.

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

well it installs easy enough. first time together and function testing with the ammo they say to use i got a F.T.E. on the second round... so far not very pleased...

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

Like a lot of things mechanical, there is probably a break in period. I'd try to run a few hundred rounds through keeping everything lubed and see if that smooths out any problems.

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

CMMG makes a damn good conversion kit. And, the CMMG magazines are much better than the black dog magaznines. The only two problems I had with mine were .....

1. The rifling in my AR just wasn't the right twist for .22LR and the accuracy could have been better.

2. If carbon builds up on the bolt face or you get a piece of something stuck on the face, you can have multiple firing on one trigger pull. Needless to say, that can get you thrown off your local range.

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

Muttt....

I hate to disagree, but do you actually have any Black Dog mags (I have 16 or more) and have you actually shot your CMMG mags very much? (I have worn out 4 in just a few K rounds)

The CMMG mags are junk compared to the BD mags...warped bodies, mag catches wear out very fast, make sure you never drop one anywhere near the feed lips, oversize, the list goes on.

Their conversion kits are pretty good (I have 3), but their uppers pretty much blow, barrels are terribly inaccurate, I don't know what they were thinking with that plastic CH (made by the same injection molder that makes their mags obviously, probably in China)

Sorry, rant off....

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

shot it today a lot. had 2 FTE in first clip. next 3 clips were flawless though. guess it just took a while to get broke in! accuracy is good enough for me, but i wasnt really intersted in that aspect. just the shoot cheap ammo.

Re: CMMG 22 conversion AR

Now that i have a few hundred rounds through it it works flawlessly. only have problems if i manually try to eject rounds. ejector wont grab it. but firing it i have no problems.
