I am looking into one, and taking the drive up. I have not purchased from them before, and i see on thir site, that this batch is comprable to the last one. How bad where they. The guy told me they where fair, and thats all. He did not know how the bores where, or any other details ??

Just wandering if anyone knew about them .

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

Well worth the money from the examples I've seen and the one I own. Does the north store have complete rifles? I was just on the site the other day and all they had were barreled receivers.

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

Are you refering to the barred receivers they have for sale?? As far as I knew they weren't expecting any more rifles until 'maybe' sometime next yr!

If the barreled receivers you better consider the $200+ for a bolt and what it would cost to get properly fitted. Also the smaller pieces such as bolt guide/ejector/feed ramp $30ish, the left receiver rail filler piece and spring, roughly $25, bolt stop and spring about $25 and whatever trigger you wish to use and then the stock. Would be cheaper to buy a complete and matching rifle and sell off what you DON'T want! I did one and had most of the parts and I figure I have $600ish into a barreled action.

Check the barreled receivers out well as some have poor exterior finish so may have bore issues, stripped out or broken off screws etc etc.

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

correct, just barreld actions, but thats all i wanted, i was going to put it in a stock i have. Do you know, are they shootable, you dident have to re-barrel or anythign right? The guy i talked to, i think bill or bob, said there was some rust, but he said there all different.

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

ohhh. there was nothing mentiond about the bolts not there. I will check into it some more. if thats the case, and they need a good amount of work plus a bolt, it prob would not be worth it. Thansk for the heads up

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

They are listed as "barreled receivers" because that is all you get. Some such as the standard barrel I got did have the receiver rail filler piece and spring and was in 95%+ condition. However they were sold from the getgo and very few standard barrels and of course were first pics. I am sure they are really picked over by now!!!!!!

The pics I have seen from those who posted on the CMP forums show somewhat rusted or grayish colored barrels. I was going to order a HB but was told by a Anniston employee that they "were kinda rough" and I would be better off finding someone to pick one out for me???? I am sure through mail order they will sell the best of the worst first and so as to let hands on inspection of the others in either store.

If by chance you buy one and need a bolt I have 2 new Kiff bolts(cause I was planning on buying one, lol). Don't know if Dave has any left but I placed an order within 2 wks of getting my barreled receiver and had a factory bolt for it which I hoped and it did headspace correctly. Dave had said what didn't sell on preorder for $199+ shipping in advance would go to either $225 or $250 but I cannot remember which. I would sell one for $220 shipped as I don't really need 2 spares.

HTH

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

I got a complete rifle last year when they were released. Bolt matches the serial number. I would rate it at 90+%. A very beautiful rifle and tack driver. I have been torn on whether to thread it for my Outback. I know it will devalue it if I do so, but I just love my suppressors. Do you guys think I am crazy if I get it threaded? I have also been thinking of getting one of the barreled actions and threading it. I know there is surgery involved with headspacing the bolt to the new barrel. Does anyone know if it is easy to do this, or just a serious pain in the arse?? Thanks for the input.

No they won't work in a 700 action

Re: CMP 40x 22lr?

The bolt is the same whether for the 40-X(722 based) receiver and the 40-XB(700 based receiver). Only the handle is different with the bolt on the early 40-X being straight like the Kiff bolts or 722 rifles. The 40-XB bolts are swept back like a 700 and checkered. The bolt WILL NOT work in a 700 as they are completely different with the 700 centerfire having locking lugs in front and 40-X/XB/XR rimfires having bolt lugs just ahead of rear receiver ring.

My thought was to buy a stripped barreled receiver and recontour barrel to heavy sporter and thread it but I haven't done it yet!

I have a posted pics of my redone 40-X standard barrel with 40-XB bolt and M40 stock further down in this thread.
