Okay guys,

I measured the leade in my Mauser the other day. I tried (4) time and (3) out of (4) I got 2.86 inches with a Hornady 168 gr HPBT (its a pretty cheap match bullet). I know that 308 ammo runs in the 2.8 area. If I load my ammo to 2.84 or 2.85, is it still possible to see extream preasure with a minimum powder charge? In this case it will be 44gr of Varget. Should I back off to 42, or go ahead with 44?

Im wondering if the minimum powder charge, for a 168gr pill will still be safe to shoot with .04-.05 inches over COAL.

Re: COAL Questions 308

You cna run the bullets up to the jam and even into the lands and keep the powder at or under max load aslong a you are not running military , or some other funky cases and be safe. The measured oal in comparrison to saami doesnt matter , what matters is where you are in referance to the lands.

I used a case that I split the neck on and cycled the dummy round into the chamber. So the bullet was on the lands at 2.86 coal.
