Im still very new so forgive my ignorance. A little background ingo, About 10 days ago I got my rifle back from the gunsmith, a 700 sps varmint that I had in 22-250, barrel was going bad at the same time I started to have fun longer distance shooting ( for me it is 600 yards to 1000 yards) knowing the capability or lack off of the 22-250 for distance pass tge 600 mark I decided to have the barrel change to a 6.5 creedmor.
The scope I have on it is a redfield revenge 6-18x44, I know, its a hunting scope and at 800 yards I have to use the 2nd hashmark (I need to get a 20 moa rail..)

I have only 80 rds with that rifle, 40 were hornady 140 gr amax and 40 were winshester 140 gr match ammo (bthp)
in this pic I shot 5 rds at 800 yards, cold bore shot was right on (the circle measure 5 inches in diameter)
But then the following shots were low and right.

So the question is, is there a way to not get so much differences between the cold bore shot and the others ?

the barrel is a shillen, action was trued at the same time they installed the barrel. I cleaned the barrel last night, before that group I shot at 600 (10 rds) to check/confirm my zero to be able to write down the info between 600 and 800. about 45 minutes passed between the shooting. I didnt try to duplicate with the cold bore as I stopped after that. I dont like the way I see in my scope having to use the hashmark, I need to get a 20 moa rail. I have a pic I took with my cell on how I see in the scope.
I am shooting prone on a mat with a sand bag in the back.

I would say that's not a cold bore shot then and instead one you pulled. I don't quite think 45 minutes is enough to claim cold bore but that's just me and I may be off base. I'll only claim cold bore as the first shot of each day

You know, you may be right I may have pulled it without realizing, ill go shoot on Thursday and see if it does the same thing, there was little wind on that day (between 3 to 6 mph) hopefully it will be similar condition.

6bgraham seems to be spot on. However; your oiled and clean bore may throw it high. Next time out, foul your barrel with at least one or two shots. Then cold bore test for accuracy. Easy way to eliminate one variable.

Agreed. I normally go 200-300 rounds between cleaning the 308. However, odd thing. Last week, my 308 seemed to need a good cleaning - just a gut feel. I scubbed it out then went after the copper with JB. Took it to the range on Saturday. Cold bore shot at 500 was an inch right of the mark. The 5-shot group came out to .73 moa. Nothing special but I have cleaned that gun before and the first shot was three feet to the right. I used to clean that gun after every day at the range. It now shoots better than it did before. Clean less, shoot more.

Lol, I usually dont, my late 22-250 saw probably 10 cleaning in a bit over 3k rds. My ar I clean when the bolt doesnt slide freely anymore my handguns..I dont remember when it was...lol

I went back yesterday am, I didnt clean the barrel before going this time...LOL. first shot is the top one. there was a wind of about 10 mph coming from my left.
the ammo is the same (my last box) Winchester 140 gr match.
I took a video which is a bit boring but oh well...LOL
