What oil should I use for the bolt in freezing weather on the 10/22. I am getting a few failure to cycles right now and I’m pretty sure this oil is to gummy in this cold weather. Thanks.

Use lighter oil.

Or no oil.

I don't think I've ever oiled my 10-22 since it was bought as my first rifle in 1984 or so.

Thing just runs.

Thanks guys. I have some that I haven’t used. Accidentally bought it thinking it was one shot case lube. Another questions, Is Hornady one shot good for long term storage with ARs?

penn reel grease or oil is great, cheap, and made to perform in harsh subzero conditions.
that said, i live in southern california so you can take that for what it is. :p

What exactly are your failure to cycles? I have bought 3 new 10-22's in the last month and none of them really want to function with subsonic ammo, and that is highlighted big time in 25 rd mags. I get stove pipes, with a rd in the chamber, then on occasion get an eject, with the next rd floating high and hanging up.
IMO, it is the mags, 10rd'rs do quite well.

No lube, not one hiccup. Cheap ass CMP surplus Remington ammo decades old.

That was the first firearm ever for me.

Bought about 1982/83 time frame.

Has alloy trigger and barrel band unlike the new ones with "polymer".

Depresses me when I see plastic replace cheap metal in guns.
All mine have been the target models, feeding issues not really a trait of 10-22, and I am friggin lost on the 3 I have. I bought 2 cases of CCI sub Clean ammo because it was supposed to be identical to the lead variant, well, different shape bullet, I just finished up giving away over 760 bucks worth of that ammo, and if shit does not come around, I'll have 9 bricks of FGMM on the chopping block, but this fed better on warmer days. So still hope, lol

You guys that chase the ultimate in accuracy out of 10-22s have my respect. You build some beautiful rifles.

Mine is for JWA - Just Walking Around.

That photo was taken on a friends land. We were out just walking around with our .22s.

Mostly we were postholing in the 3 foot deep snow areas.

Good times and a fun rifle. To 50 yards with my BS ammo it surprises me.

Best shot when I was a kid was killing a starling at close to 75 yards or so with my at that time mounted Tasco 2X scope.

When I bought that rifle I also bought a walnut under folder stock.

I was shocked to see these things sell for $400-$500 now. More than Id get selling the rifle.

I had been using BreakFree CLP. Hadn’t had any problems until last week. Temp was in the teens and humid. Cleaned it up with One Shot and it’s back to good. It was way dirtier than I expected. Maybe just excessively dirty.
Thanks for the help guys.

I use/used just about anything.
You could do a few things during the winter when bored.
Polish the bolt and receiver by hand,it will improve things dramatically.
Cold weather = light oil, Rem oil has always been good, again I use pretty much whatever I have.

Thanks for the reply, I have been dabbing just a little Hobo oil on 2 of mine, I still think mine either ammo or magazine issues.
