Cold weather reloading

Re: Cold weather reloading

I load in my garage. I find when it's cold, fewer people come to visit me, bother me, try to sell me shit or tell me how they did things up north!

I do find the static problem too when it drys a touch. I deal with it with a dryer sheet or hold the funnel or other offending item up to a light fixture to de-ionize it. Works well but I can't say exactly why as I'm a carpenter and leave that shit to sparkies (Electrodes)! I assume it has to do with the electro magnetic field around the cable/wire/device that makes the powder act with good manners!

Some of the guys ground their press but as I load from the Chargemaster, I need other options!

Re: Cold weather reloading

Dryer sheet wipe down measure, funnel, etc also rubber band one around measure. In addition cut 2 prongs off a 3 prong plug except the ground plug. Plug ground into socket attach to measure.

Re: Cold weather reloading

I ground my powder measure almost all the time for static release. I use a 20' wire with alligator clamps on each end. One end powder measure. The other end to the cold water pipe of the washer.

Re: Cold weather reloading

I have heard that fluted stainless steel barrels can blow up at very low temps.
Apparently stainless looses quite a bit of its tensile strength at below freezing temps.

Yeah those Artic Warefare .338 Super Magnums with fluted barrels are blowing up all over the place.Though they are only rated to -40c. To the original post I wipes out the funnels and powder measure with dryer sheets as well and had no further problems.
