I didn't see this thread before today. I much prefer college baseball to MLB. At this level, the game is pure. Guys are playing the game to play the game. These guys hustle like Pete Rose, never take a play off & do nothing but play for the love of the game. This is baseball at it's finest.
The sad part is when the game becomes a "business." Guys start to take a play off here or there, no longer running balls out, ie Deion Sanders.
The shitty part of this is that these guys are getting huge contracts to play a game. A lot of us pay membership fees, uniform / "gold card" fees, league fees to register a team, etc. This has nothing to do w/ spending assloads of money on equipment such as modern day "hot bats."
I've always been a 'Horns fan personally. I remember staying home from school way back in the day & watching Roger Clemens of UT pitch in the CWS. Those were great days.
***Although, If y'all didnt see the final game of the NCAA CWS, I don't agree with umpire'[s call to disallow the tying run over a late slide at 2B. Let's not pussify the game on account of something so insignificant.
Short story: Score Florida 2 / LSU 1. LSU has runners on 1st & 3rd NO OUTS. Groundball DP 4-6-3. Ump says runner on 1st intentionally slides late causing interference to SS & runner on 3B must return to 3B. The run did not count.
