I searched a little bit before putting this up on here. Seems the web is full of these where they are either dirt cheap or insanely expensive...but I was curious if anyone on the Hide had any knowledge of the Colt AR15A3 lowers that are stamped with the "Government or LE Only" stamps on them and what they might be worth, I have one off an old patrol rifle along with a Geissele SSA large pin trigger and don't know if its worth hanging on to or letting it go. Thanks in advance and my apologies if i missed it, my Google skills are seriously lacking...

i just bought a police trade-in A3 gun with the same setup, except im fairly certain its all small pin. The price i paid for it was more than fair and i think i got a good deal on it, but the ASKING prices are all over for the place, with people thinking they are worth more than they are since they are marked "restricted" . Not everyone really knows the origins of that and they think it makes it extra special.

anyhow, the answer your question, you dont have anything there more than a very functional, quality colt product with a great aftermarket trigger. The whole thing is worth a little less because of the large pin but thats about it. if you want to sell, sell. you dont have anything very rare or desirable from a collector standpoint. There are millions of them out there. FYI, i paid $650 for a complete A3 rifle 2 months ago.

That’s what I was thinking. I got mine the same way, was actually one of my depts guns. I ended up having to toss most of the parts, the barrel was completely shot out. Now I’m down to pretty much just the lower lol, the gun was so worn out. I used a Colt in the military and since I got out I’ve been a bit of a BCM fanboy, and some others. After I got it, I just looked them up out of curiosity and the differences kinda threw me. One I saw was listed for over $1k and the seller kept making a big deal out of the mil/Leo stamp. It’s cool to have but it’s not like it makes the gun shoot different lol. I figured it was merely a collector thing. Thanks a lot for the reply! Pretty much confirmed my suspicion.

Colt + restricted roll mark makes it easy for a seller to try and trump up their add that this is something super rare. I think its kind of a "neat" little relic of a bygone era, but its not any more valuable and its a reminder of the ban that screwed us with that rollmark in the first place.

Good luck with your sale.

I think I’m gonna hang on to it. I too think it’s a neat thing to have. May turn it in to an SPR, something like what I carried in the mil. I feel as though it’s a situation I’d kick myself over if I sold it.
