Compensators ??

So tell me if its a silly question or not but i see lots of muzzle brakes on barrels...what about compensators for precision rifles? Any added benefit other then maybe lookin different? Maybe not as efficient as the big muzzle brakes? Be kinda wild to see a breaching unit on the end of a heavy barrel bolt action blowing the hinges of a door lol

Just get your barrel threaded, buy yourself one of these for $45 from RWS here on the "Hide" and come back and tell us . . .

I'm trying to find these RWS muzzle brakes with no luck. Where exactly can I find them. I've been reading about these particular brakes and everyone who has spoke of them have nothing but great things to say so I would like to try it out.

To getmy barrel threaded do I need to send it off to someone or what's the best advice for getting a barrel threaded?

Buck,

You need to take your barrel to a gunsmith or a competent machine shop that has metal turning capability.

The threads should be cut with the barrel indicated in from the bore of the barrel, not the outside diameter of the barrel.

If you can't find something local, then, yes, you'll have to send it off. You'll have to remove your scope. Generally speaking, the bottom scope rings and trigger housing group can remain attached to the receiver group, but it would be prudent to check with your chosen machinist/smith before hand.

Should run anywhere between $100 to $150.

Just for giggles, Mark Gordon @ Short Action Customs charged me $165 to cut/crown/re-thread the barrel of my 700 AAC-SD, contour for the Surefire MB762SSAL-RE brake I sent him, and install said brake. That was a small upcharge from his normal rate since contouring for that brake was a little beyond his normal cut/crown/thread rate.
