Alright. I had to have a buddy do my ladder test for me due to a work deal. Here are the results:
Lapua Brass
Sierra 110 Match Kings 80 thou jump
H4350
39.4 gr 3025 fps
39.6 gr 3037 fps
39.8 gr 3052 fps
40.0 gr 3057 fps
40.2 gr 3072 fps
40.4 gr 3089 fps
40.6 gr 3102 fps
40.8 gr 3115 fps
41.0 gr 3107 fps
41.2 gr 3142 fps
This was interesting because Of my 40.0 load. with a drop. I loaded up for the match with 39.9 gr and did 10 rounds at 40.7 gr just to chrono/group. The morning of the match was like 25 degrees about 20 degrees colder then the ladder test. 39.9 chrono'd at 3043 fps with 4.0 SD and 40.7 at 3084 fps with 8.7 SD. Based on PRS blog and what Hogdon advertises the temp dev made sense for the 39.9 gr but as a bit of a jump for the 40.7 gr.
Now, the groupings where not at all what I thought they would be. The 39.9 was an inch and that was being generous and the 40.7 was a half to three quarters.
I shot the match with no dope besides the calculator (Applied Ballistics) and it seem right now. This was the first I was shooting this rifle myself outside. I had some issues getting stable on some stages but didn't come in last. Just below middle of the pack of 30+ shooters.
After I had 15 extra rounds and wanted to check the groupings. Again this is with the 39.9 gr load and now again about 45 degrees.. I shot a shot group and 3 where on top of each other and so flyers. My friend shot a 5 shot group and was an inch to an inch and half. I shot the third group with 3 touching and two flyers. It just seemed weird to me.
I am not satisfied with this with what I have put into the rifle. I am going to do a modified OCW tomorrow with 39.9 to 40.9 and just shoot 5 round groups. Then chrono, zero Sunday and next Saturday verify some dope for the match next Sunday. If I can't get a group that I like I think I am going to go back to the 39.9 gr load due to the standard dev and work my seating depth to try to tighten it up.
I have used the ladder test system in the past and have had great results. I did it with my 6.5 creed and shooting .29 moa groups. I worked in a buddies .308 with nothing done to it besides crowning and bedding. He is shooting .35 to .40 moa groups. I don't know why I am having an issue with this rifle.
I will post my groupings from tomorrow and keep everyone updated.
