Hey guys. I shot 2 gongs today at 100 yards. One had the most hits, but the other one was so much better looking. Most of the rounds in the center area. So it got me thinking..maybe we could add a 1" x mark on the 100 yard gong. Since it's a gong, the person with the most hits should still win. But, having the x marks on there can still show off some skill from those who didn't. I'm not really sure if this has been done before. Thought it would spice it up a bit instead of the usual suspects posting their average number of hits every month. I'm good either way. Just an idea I had rolling around. Let me know what you guys think.

Thats probably a good idea SmallBore, except that hits on my steel targets knocks the paint off pretty fast. Maybe it's because they are home made or something, I don't know. My point is this. 5 or 6 hits & you couldn't find a X on them. Any ideas to correct this little problem?

Hmmmm. Good question. I thought it was a cool idea, but I wasn't really thinking of the guys that shoot at the real metal gongs. The only thing I can think of is maybe putting some type of fabric over it? But I don't shoot at metal gongs so I don't know if that would be just as destructive. Anybody else have any ideas? If not then I guess it just might not work out.

i'm thinking it would up the gong game, and end some of the "ties".
i just measured the target we're using for the 100 yard matches, (found on the printable target link), the very center X ring is 1" on both the 2.5 and 3.5 paper gongs.
the 200 yard target, the very center X ring is 2".
i'm thinking that should meet the criteria, just modify the posting of scores to include X's for the gongs, and add a line to the target for the x count.
....and yell "PING" everytime you hit it

Haha. Yeah all of that sounds right and good IMO. And I wasn't even thinking about ties. That would really help that out. I like shooting at the gongs. I don't worry about points. I just like simple hit or miss. But when I saw the pretty big difference in those 2 gongs I shot I was thinking this would be pretty cool.
