Somewhere
I plan to hunt with a Henry side gate or a Marlin dark series model 1895 (both chambered in 45-70). What are some good glass options under $1000?

In the last two hunts, targets were shot within 150 yards. Looking for this one big ass buck and the distance might be 300 yards or within this year.

90’s Marlin 1894 SS .44 Mag. EGW Rail, Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24. Works awesome!

If you plan to run your 45-70 as fast as possible, you might want to consider a scout scope like the ones from Leupold or Burris. I have a non-ported JM Guide Gun in 45-70 with a 2.5x scout scope. It shoots my 325 Hornady Leverevolution loads just over 2000 fps and it kills on both ends; I would not want a conventional scope on it. It also will group three shots in 1 moa with them all touching. The first time it did that, I thought it was a fluke, but it wasn’t, it will do it over and over.

If I were looking at scout scopes today, I would look at the 1.5-4 Leupold or the 2-7 Burris. If you go with a conventional scope, look for long eye relief and be careful.
