Can someone give me some pros and cons for this round? I have been studying the ballistics and they seem almost too good to be true. I was considering a bmg, but the cheytac seems to beat it in every category except retained energy. I'm thinkin a lawton action, but don't have a clue yet as to what would be a good barrel, twist, brake, etc for this build yet. Suggestions would be nice. I'm lookin at piecing this together over the next 6 months. My local smith said he would have no problem building what I want. I would also like suggestions on bullet size, reamer, and suggested weight of the rifle. I haven't fired one yet and would like to know what it compares to. Thanks all.

Re: Considering 375 Cheytac......

It does fit nicely between .338LM and .50BMG performance wise. Lawton 8000 actions and barrels were quite popular with them until Barney passed. Nowadays we're seeing actions from many more like Stiller, Barker and Barnard. At least one smith I know prefers Benchmark barrels for that cartridge, but overall it's caught on enough that I would expect that you can get barrels from just about any of the major suppliers. The Lawton barrels, in the early days, played with different groove dimensions as the .408 was mostly centered around copper/nickel solids, but that's changed. Now that the .375 variation is far more popular, we're seeing folks shoot everything from solids to classic HTBT.

From a shooting perspective, a .375CT is nice because you can take it much farther than a .338LM and it doesn't require a 30lb rifle with a concussive blast.

The overall weight is a major factor on my decision. I like the idea of staying under 15lbs unscoped. with a good brake, I should be able to use this for any application beyond 1k. I have been experimenting with long range calibers for a few years now and so far, the most advanced I have is a 9 twist 30" 338 Lapua Mag Improved. It's good for 1.5 miles. I'd like to see if the 375 can do better with my limited abilities.

Re: Considering 375 Cheytac......

There is all kinds of pros for the case.

Excellent BC bullets
More bullets available than the 408
Less recoil than a 50
A little less recoil than the 408
More barrel manufacturers than the 408

About the only con that comes to mind right now is brass availabiltiy.
