They are not going to get far using this incident as a basis for more gun control. The only person who fired shots was an off-duty policeman, and LEO's are exempt from gun laws that apply to civilians. Besides, the officer was being attacked by a hoodrat and defended himself accordingly.

As a matter of fact, if the antis try to spin this into another gun control argument, a counter-argument can be made in stating how if this incident had happened to a regular civilian, who would not be able to legally carry, he would have no means of defense against the hoodrat and he and his child would most likely be injured or worse.

I have told a few jack-wagons in Costco that they need to be patient and respectful of others.
Once when i was married, some guy ran into my wife when she was pregnant as she waited for someone else to be finished so she could grab something. He was quite scared as he scampered away after I went off on him.
I am always ready to whip some butt in there.
Everyone thinks they are super important and you, your spouse, or kids, or anyone else, are not as important.
Its also key to keep your kids in check.
Once (only once) watched Momma’s kid get checked by a cart at a corner being a brat and running around. Person was very apologetic.
We both laughed at the boy and thanked them for helping teach him a lesson. I had not started going running to catch him and it was an important lesson.

I will tell you what happened long ago when the wife was carrying our first child an a gunfight broke out at a Mall in Tampa. The gunfire,
started about 50' from where we were at but out of sight, I was carrying a 1911 an 2 extra mags. I pushed her under a table against a wall an made sure she understood to stay there until I came back or a uniformed officer or EMT called all clear or offered a hand. I took up guard at that stores door being the local drunk, thankfully nothing happened an I did not have do much else. Getting into a gunfight is stupid if you can avoid it at all costs. Protecting yourself, loved ones, an the defenseless is another story, but your an your family's safety trumps defenseless unless it happens right in front of you. Don't go looking for trouble, as if you do at some point you will find it, but may not be up to the task at hand, depending.

If I'm in Costco and a gunfight starts I get my family to safety. I carry a firearm in order to protect myself and my family. I have no delusions of grandeur. Remember the moment you draw my weapon against an individual who is attacking another individual you lose all rights to a Self Defense plea.

Here's the thing, I've never been in a gunfight, and I damn sure don't want to be. But, the most universal thing about such incidences is that it is pretty hard to tell the difference between a good guy and a bad guy when bullets are flying and no one is talking.

I always think back to the Gabby Gifford shooting. The "Hero" in that scenario very nearly shot the wrong man. Imagine what his life would have been like if he had pulled the trigger.
