Looking to put together a nice trainer in 22lr.
Fairly decided on a Savage Mark II.
Was looking at the TR, or the BV.
But after doing some reading and research I think I am better off buying the FV and a stock from boyds, seems to save a fair bit of money.

Real question is on the scope.
I would like something with a mil-dot because that is what is on my 308.
My first rifle was a marlin with a bsa sweet22, was looking this
BSA Tactical Mil-Dot Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 6-24x 44mm Side Focus Glass

One fear is that a mil-dot just isn't a good idea on a rimfire due to the thickness of the lines. But I'm not sure.

I hesitate to use the word budget as I am willing to spend a few bucks, but I will say I am focused on value or bang for the buck.

So is it just a better idea and cheaper to buy the FV and swap the stock?
What scope with mil-dots would you recommend for 25-200 yard work? Most 50-100 though.

i have used a nikon 6x18 buckmasters for 3 years now, an still going strong
you have 3 ret choices target dot, milldot, duplex, also side focus an 1/8 clicks target knobs for fine tune

I've said this once before....you've answered your own question. "Looking to put together a nice trainer in 22lr".
That being said, you train how you fight, compete. So, if your centerfire has a Mildot, or MRAD or what ever, you do the same thing with the .22 trainer. In my opinion, the groups even with the best match ammo cannot come close to the 'smallness" of fine cross hairs. Get your MILDOT, learn to hold over and hold for wind....train.....
You can't beat SWFA for their prices. Bushnell is great too as well as Vortex.

I figured it would be better to have the Mil-dots on the trainer.

Rifle I'm pairing this with is a 700 AAC-SD in 308 with an swfa 10 power.
My thinking was that another swfa was over kill and not really worth the money for the 22.
But maybe if I shop around I'll find a good deal.

If you can catch a sale on Boyds, then you can save whatever the sale amount is... otherwise, base fv + boyds stock + new bottom metal is just about equal to what a TR would cost

I know the TR will still have a fluted barrel and a different bolt handle, so it's not apples to apples.

But the FV at $200 plus the $120 for the stock with metal and is still $80 cheaper then I have seen the TR for($400)

Not to post two cheap BSA scopes in a row, but what about this?

Or is the answer try and find a deal on another swfa?
Then the trainer varies less?

There ya go! I am very partial to the SWFA SS's. Mine is a TASCO....that is the very first one that was put out for the US Navy back in the early 90s....still going strong, have 2 more. All now on rimfires....

Top gun is my Savage MKII that I just sold
And the bottom is my Savage 93 R 17 which I am keeping....

Just ordered the FV, figure ill use the savings to buy a scope and stock.
Leaning boyds stock.
Thinking EGW 20moa base.
Still unsure on scope.

Would like the following in a scope.
-mil dots
-"tactical" knobs
-side focus if possible

That is an interesting scope.
Im always amazed how intertwined the companies all are, names arent names anymore.

I did order the BSA scope from my first post.
Found a $20 coupon code and the scope was on the free shipping list, so $110 all in isnt that huge of a deal.
If it winds up not being any good ill toss it on a plinker. Will keep an eye out for a deal on a SWFA SS scope too as I like the one on my remington 700.

Now leaning DIP scope base, I assume the rings that come with the BSA scope will be way to tall, so i need to figure out the right hight.

Just leaves the stock, hunter vs tacticool
Think I have a caswell 6-9 around too.
