Couple hours at the range.

So I finally managed to have a day off work, headed to the range with my cz457 fitted with a cheap nasty burris 3-9 scope.
Managed to put about 300 rounds down range @50m using cci sv and various SK.
Interestingly the gun seemed to like the sk flat nose purple box stuff.

I should note that I am a complete novice and I shoot like shit, but I'm still having an absolute blast.

Once I get some more trigger time and more ammo variety I'll have a go at shooting some groups.
Particularly keen to have a go at the 6x5, although I'm a bloody terrible shot.

Yeah, it surely is fun! Spent 5 hours at the 150m range few days ago. Shot over 200 rounds which is quite much for me.

If you have time at the range, I suggest doing 6x5 just to practice it and see how you do.

The 6x5 is not meant to be a competition, it is just to make groups and post them. Make one every month, post if you get a good one, but they will show you your progress. Shooting targets for "review" is also different from just regular training.

Guys we quite often forget it's not the accuracy we crave when we go shooting. It's the fun and interaction with like minded people.
Yes having guns that shoot like a laser always helps, but we all started at the bottom and worked our way up.
So be trigger happy, have fun and learn your rifle. You'll be surprised how much info you'll learn from others when you chat and listen.

Yeah the top left box was 50 rounds just because I had a bunch of cci.

Im just happy that I can shoot decent enough that I can differentiate between groups.
Might not look like it but there was actually some order to how I shot, im just happy to have got to the range.
Been working 6 days a week the last few months.

As an aside, I also have a bergara b14r barrelled action and athlon Argos 8-34 in the safe and ready to put in the mpa hybrid chassis i have on order, stupid covid has extended the lead time but it'll be great fun when its here.

oh that.....
I tend to tear up the top of the cci box and leave the top open to stop the plastic holder from dropping down and letting the bullets fall on the bench.
I also found putting the cci directly on top of the bullet tray from a box of sk works well too.

But I can't see myself shooting much cci from now, considering that sk is only a few $ more per box and shoots noticeably more consistent.

Don't ask about Aussie ammo prices but still a shitload cheaper than shooting anything centrefire.

Went again to the 150m range and recorded 0-14mph during the walk to the targets. The wind was also switching direction, even back and forth.

I lent my Atlas PRS bipod and shot one dudes Sig Patrol 308 with it, my first time shooting an AR10 based rifle and while the first shot broke loose (the reticle jumped badly) I got the next 4 into a roughly 1moa group.

Needless to say, I had huge problems shooting targets. I had to take up to 1.8mil windage, I turned 1mil right before even starting to shoot so I would hit the targets..

But I hope I learned something about wind.
