Well im going camping this week with the family in northern AZ, and thought i would give coyote hunting a try, sence there is a fire ban and that means no target shooting. I havent been sence I was about 8yrs old when I would go weekly with my Dad. He had a little ice chest cut out for speakers and a cassette player that would play a real recording of a squealing jack rabbit(damn animal rights people) best call ever.ha. Every weekend was like a good video from ONEILLOPS. Anyway enough rant.

Just looking for some advice on the best time of day, morning or evening? Its going to be hot! I got a Phantom pro series remote call given to me, its no Fox pro but im going to give it a shot. Is there a certain call i should favor? Fawn distress, rabit distress, or maybe puppy yelp? Maybe a combo? Kind of going into this blind so any tips about anything would be great!

Thanks for the help.

I don't know where you are going but - near any waterway, creekbed, dry wash - within a mile or so. try calling in the morning and evening hours. Sundown is about 8:00 pm, I would try about 5 pm or start at 5 am - first light. It is now legal and you can predator hunt at night with lights, but you can only use a shotgun. It can still be fun. See the AZG&F website.

I would try a rabbit distress and some single howls , maybe a puppy yelp or two. Sometimes a little squeaker. Don't just hammer away with the distress. Set up, let it go foe about 30 seconds, shut it down and try again in a few minutes. Mix is a howl or siren type call and let it ride for a few more. No action - move on.

Thanks George! Going somewhere off Stoneman Lake road.

The night hunting is restricted to certain units, just not sure which ones. There were a crazy amount of yotes up in 7E during my elk hunt last year, so Im hoping this area will be active.
