While doing some dryfire exercises recently, I got to thinking that since some trigger shoes benefit from ridges for added grip, could a further enhancement be to really texturize the shoe, something similar to the parkerization on some barrels, thereby affording it a rock solid weld with the trigger finger?

Thoughts?

Right, that's my logic here! Most shoes seem to be polished to a shine.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

Parkerizing is not a form of texturing - it is simply a metal finish treatment. The fuzz that Parkerizing initially has polishes off quickly with use and would be as smooth as bluing in a very short time.

Texturing the metal on the front of your Service Rifle trigger or adding skateboard tape to it (or any other part of the rifle) would constitute an illegal modification per the CMP and NRA rules. Doing so to a Match Rifle trigger would be legal.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

Yeah, after posting I realized park'ing would probably not produce what I was after, for that reason.

Competition aside, I meant it more for general precision rifles. Wonder why you don't see it more often, given how much texturizing is done to the other contact points... will ask over on bolt rifles if anyone does it.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

If you look at S&W target revolvers as an example, different people like different things. Some like serrations, commonly when the pistol is intended to be shot single action, and some like smooth and rounded, when the pistol is intended to be shot double action so there is a gliding/rolling of the finger over the front.

If you want more examples to look at, check out air and smallbore international competition rifles and pistols. The trigger shoes can be removed and replaced. The Mfrs make several and there is an aftermarket, then some have them custom made.

Different strokes for different folks. What works for you, works for you. Unless it is a Service Rifle, which is both the beauty and the curse of it.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

I textured my trigger, mostly just for shits and giggles. To try and be unique. I used a dremel with a sandpaper wheel to roughen the front surface, and then spritzed just the front side with a surface coat for truck bed liners. It gives a nice texture to stick too and the truck bed liner spray gives a kind of feel like rubber with grains of sand in it. Cant say it's a HUGE benefit with bare fingers which i like using most often, but its a HUGE benefit when using gloves.

I will try and get pictures some time.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

ok question for the OP: have you thought about using a tiny bit of the spray on bed liner stuff to coat the face of the trigger shoe for texture? it'll be on there good and long, and prolly wont wear off..... just a thought.

Im gonna say no for me though. i am the oddball here in that i LIKE the smooth trigger. makes it easy for me to feel where i am and get set just right. i dunno. im probably just wierd.

EDIT: whoops, the guy right above my post beat me to the punch, lol.

As mentioned above, benchrest triggers can be had with texture

IF I shoot an AR? That's funny.

Geissele. Service Rifle trigger in the Service Rifle, Match Rifle trigger in the spacegun. RRAs in the SPR and carbine.

Tubb guns are Tubb guns; AR15-based Match Rifles are spaceguns; AR10-based Match rifles are spacebeasts or spacemonsters.

Re: Crazy idea.. a parkerized trigger shoe?

With my son's rifle we got a 1/8 inch o-ring from the hardware store, stretched it around the trigger shoe for a tactile aid in consistent trigger finger placement. Not exactly a finger weld, but one less thing to worry about.
