is this so out of the realm of possibility that nobody has done it before?

seems like a good way to get a proven, solid mount with built in 18-40 MOA slope without messing with risers.

or maybe people do it all the time or its sacrilegious and im just ignorant to those possibilities...

The Canadians did it with their AR-10's when mounting S&B 3-12X50 PMII's to them, I don't know how much cant they had but they were definitely AI mounts. I almost ended up using a set when I had my AR-10T but decided to keep the Badger rings that I was using.

Not crazy at all. I have been using multiple models on AR's and several other different weapons due to the single simple mounting surface, reliability and repeatability. We now offer the 30mm/18moa part # 6371, plus we have the 34mm/18, 28 and 45moa mounts available as well.

Australia seems to have had the same idea:

I'm a big fan of using flat bases and one piece mounts to fit the cant to the scope. It makes a lot more sense to me than limiting a rifle to a "one size fits all" cant.
