Hi,

I am getting a White Oak Armament .204 upper, 24 in fluted barrel with 1:10 twist. The lower is a Mega Machines billet receiver with Magpul PRS stock.

I ordered 100 rounds of Hornady V-max 40 grain bullets.

To anyone familiar with the .204, what other bullets would you recommend for the 1:10 twist?

I will need to buy commercially available ammo until I get reloading dies. Most of the info I see on the web is geared towards 1:12 twist barrels. Do you think the 1:10 twist is too fast for 32 grainers?

Thanks!

32's will probably work--buy a box of @ and try them out--my
sabre defense shoots 32 best but is less than moa with any
wt so far--you should be able to shoot the "heavies" also--
best varmint caliber out there for AR!ENJOY

I have a 20 Practical WOA (10 twist). It shoots 32s great. I would try the 39 Blitzkings over the 40 gr Vmax. But try them all. You will be happy with your upper, WOAs always shoot great.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I wanted the Federal 39 grain Blitzkings but they are out of stock everywhere I looked. I will keep you advised as to my results.

I am shooting a 1 in 9 shilen with the hornady 32's and having great success with them. If I do my part they will stay on a 4" steel at 400 yrds. Not bad for factory ammo. By the way rra upper and lower with nm trigger. Also the 40's seem to shoot with the same zero to 350 yrds.

I have a Savage 12 in 204. It's a factory barrel so I don't get quite the velocities that several others are getting, but it's a shooter for sure.

Mostly I shoot 40 Vmax around 3800fps with 26.8gr of H335

Seat them 0.005" off the lands and start with about 25.5gr of powder. BLC2 pushes them faster but I haven't done much testing with it so I'm not inclined to give a higher starting load yet for safety sake. If you really wanted to use BLC2 then it's safe to start with the H335 starting load and work up from there.

For factory ammo I shot the HSM with 32 Soft Points and Hornady with 32 Vmax. The HSM shot like shit no matter what I did to it.

The Hornady shot decently, then I took some of them and soft pulled the bullet partway. I never actually pull the bullet all the way out, just enough to reseat it so the bullet is 0.005" off the lands. Then it shot overlapping holes.

Reloads definitely were the answer though. 40Vmax, 26.8gr H335, Hornady brass (fully prepped) and Wolf SRmag primers. 0.42" total hole for 5 shots, including a flier on #4 that was my fault.
