Gunsmithing Custom Build a Precision Rifle

Even more options.

On what, specifically?

I can't tell if you're looking for validation, or suggestions.

After all, this is a precision rifle forum- most here, have built or had others build custom rifles for them.

What answers, or advice- are you seeking?
Oh sorry haha.
Just more so what are y’all’s opinions on building a precision rifle in those calibers… i know the box rifles are usually best with the name brands, but I just built a beowulf AR Pistol and that was pretty cool so I was looking at if building a long rifle would be just as rewarding and as accurate as a store bought rifle.

Sorry for the confusion.

The "box rifles" depend. You're generally playing the lottery on getting a good one if you go with something you'd find at your local gun store every day of the week.

If you searched you'd find tons of info on building custom bolt guns. Pick out an action with the features you like, and add a custom barrel from a reputable maker. Add trigger of your choosing, and drop it in the stock or chassis of your choosing.

It's not going to be AR easy.

I started buying Remington actions for $400 and adding a $400 remage barrel. Now I'm using Defiance and Falkor actions, and using shouldered pre-fits.
There's many paths. You need to search out your own. Do some reading and come back with more specific questions.

If you just ask how to build a rifle you'll get 100 different answers and likely they'll be 100 wrong answers for you in the end.

Who has built a complete Precision Rifle. I feel I want to do that. Currently building my .50 Beowulf Pistol and I really want to build my own long rifle.

26-30” Barrel
338 Lapua / 300 WM

Opinions?

Thank you!

Is this your first long range precision rifle?

How far do you plan to shoot it regularly?

I guess it depends what kind of "box rifle" you're buying, but in general when it comes to precision rifles...no, "box rifles" aren't the best.

if building a long rifle would be just as rewarding and as accurate as a store bought rifle.
I would almost guarantee that you can take the "easy button" approach (Origin action, Proof prefit, KRG Bravo, Triggertech trigger), put the parts together, and it will shoot better than 99% of what you can buy on a gun store shelf. Be advised, though...assembling them is as addictive as shooting them.
