Last weekend my buddy salmonaxe and I added a custom fit recoil pad with adjustable length of pull to my 5R milspec. I'm VERY excited about how well it turned out! Haven't had a chance to take her to the range yet, but the fit is MUCH better. Here's the parts, process and pics..
Parts:
Pachmayr D750B Decelerator grind-to-fit recoil pad (1”, large)
Kick Eez spacers
Allen bolts, t-nuts
Loctite Poxy Pak
5oz. fishing weights
Process:
Put stock in freezer over night.
Chiseled off old recoil pad.
Planed/sanded base of stock.
Bored holes in new recoil pad and spacers to fit allen bolts.
Inserted and glued t-nuts onto spacer/new base.
Ground off excess t-nut for flush fit.
Bolted pad to spacers, traced base of stock and measured for fit.
Ground and sanded pad and spacers as one unit to flush fit with stock.
Roughed up inside of new base for better adhesion to stock.
Test fit counter weights in stock, glued counterweights together.
Measured and drilled screw holes in new base.
Bored base holes to countersink screws.
Drilled pilot holes for screws in stock.
Bored bolt holes in stock to ensure adjustability in bolt depth.
Glued counter weights to inside of stock.
Glued base to stock and screwed into place.
Planed/sanded new base for flush fit.
Cut and sanded excess glue.
Bolt new recoil pad and spacers into place.
Done!
Process also included lots of masking, taping, test fitting, t-nut and bolt waxing, polishing of spacers and t-nuts and waiting for glue to dry.
thanks SA!
