Was pondering whether or not to have a custom rig build or purchase a factory offering such as a Barett 416 chambered rifle.

Any real world performance delta between rigs?

Bit unclear what you are asking since different chamberings produce different results and are more or less appropriate for different shooting disciplines. Custom vs factory is substantially a consideration of your shooting interests, especially frequency, and the amount of zeal and disposable income. Real world performance tends to go with the money spent. Please elaborate for more "insight". Thanks.

The three most important things with regards to accuracy are the barrel the barrel and lastly the barrel.
With a factory gun you get the barrel they use.
With a custom build you get to choose what goes into it.
You pick the action the barrel the trigger the stock or chassis and how it is bedded or blocked.
The biggest disadvantage to a custom build is the time required to get all the pieces and then having a qualified gunsmith put it all together.
Some gunsmiths don't work on 2 inch diameter barrels 3 feet long.
If your going with a stock your choices are limited by the actions diameter.
If you going with a chassis your limited to what fits the big action you need for a 416.
I'm not a fan of factory rifles but I'd rather be shooting matches than telling everyone my gun is still at the gunsmiths shop.
With a factory gun your up and shooting and can order up a custom barrel and wait the 7 months without missing a match.
Good Luck either way.

They offer a 416 Barrett in a desert tech also. If you want you can swap the barrel and have a different option pretty quick. And its shorter than a Barrett rifle.
Just a thought.

If your spending 416 $ now, and will be feeding it 416 $ in reloading. Build a custom unless it is intended as a safe queen. You will regret a factory ... regardless of manufacturer.

Do the 416 right the first time. There are some new 416 brass offerings on the horizon; so, build away and enjoy the beast.

Good luck and great shooting
