Hey guys,
I want to know if you ever cut down a cerakoted barrel. I am thinking about cutting a 22 barrel on a 308 to 18 or even 16. Will there be problems cutting through the cerakote? Or will it chip a the muzzle? Or any other problems?

Re: cut a cerakoted barrel

I dont think it would chip off. There is a better chance of the finish getting scratched tho, in and out of the band saw and in and out of the lathe. Might as well plan on getting it re-finished. The cost to re- finish just a short barrel should be minimal if any. Also you would want the muzzle and or the thread protecter (If your threading is) to get finished anyway. Just my $.02

Re: cut a cerakoted barrel

I had my barrel threaded after it was Cerakoted and there were no problems. It will not chip if it was applied correctly. If they scratch the finish they would have scratched a blasted barrel...that should be a non issue for a qualified 'smith.

I did have the same concerns as you though, but since I do my own Cerakote it wasn't going to hurt too bad if it was scratched.
