Newbie to posting on the forum so please excuse any breeches in decorum. I have been looking for a way to introduce my grandkids to competitive shooting but also scratch my PRS/NRL itch via NRL22. I am a short gun guy for the most part so competition with a long gun is relatively new for me. Anyway, I bought a CZ455 with the intent of getting DJ to build out a tack driver for me. After the purchase I saw that he had gone into retirement and the idea died on the vine. A while later I saw he was back and contacted him only to find out he has back into retirement. Fully understand and wish him well. That left me with a CZ455 PT and a lack of satisfaction with how it shoots. I am used to being the weak link in competition …. not my kit. After research on the internet, a few books, product research and much thought, I see no reason that a reasonably handy person could not get 80% of the accuracy that Don provides. I leave that last 20% as the exclusive domain of his magic pixie dust. Those percentages are somewhat arbitrary but the point being I can do quite a few things towards making this more accurate. Granted this may be total ignorance on my part, but here we go.

My intent is to build out my CZ455 PT and document it within this thread, hoping that Don and others may offer advice and constructive criticism along the way.

Build Spec:
CZ455 action
Manners T4 Stock
Lilja drop in 16" threaded barrel (.900 no taper)
Trigger Spring Kit
Pillar Bed
Glass Bed
Firing pin shaping
Area 419 30 moa scope rail
Vortex Viper PST Gen 2
Bipod
Updated swivel cups
Joe Ducos stock cheek piece upgrade
Anarchy Outdoors swept bolt and upgraded knob
Anarchy Outdoors bottom metal
Extended mag latch
Rugged Obsidian can w/custom 22 caliber end cap
and I am sure other things along the way ....

The picture below is my starting point after purchase and about 100 rounds through the original barrel.

Starting with the receiver

Took everything apart and pulled the barrel. I binned the parts with little notes in each as to what was what. Also took pictures of things as a reference in case putting everything back together is a problem.

I took the receiver apart including the bolt guide. I have read about burrs inside the receiver that need to be knocked down but did not find anything. Pulled the mag well and punched out the pin for the mag release. Be careful there is a little spring that is captured in the plastic mag release. In looking at the bolt guide, it looks like the feed ramp is integral with the guide. I know on a pistol, done correctly, slicking up the ramp helps significantly. Is it the same for a bolt gun?

I then started looking at how the two barrels, old and new, compared. Setting the bolt guide in place against the barrel, it looks like there is quite a-bit of "wall" between the ramp and chamber. So much that it makes me believe that may not be a functional feed ramp or be something else. It was more pronounced on the Lilja, but pretty close to the same on the stock barrel. Am I misinterpreting the purpose of the inleted area?

Bud, get in on the group buy I have going. I've done everything your doing and tested numerous barrels. Lilja is a drop in, not a custom fit barrel.

These GM are 100% custom fit to your action, properly headspaced and chambered. They shoot lights out. I talked with Don extensively the past year. Got all the tricks/tips from him and his reamer specs which I had Manson make and he confirmed the print.

Proper chamber job has a chamfer cut into the chamber mouth to assist in feeding from a mag

What's the deal with the Heavy Obsidian vs the oculus?? I have all the Rugged cans. Nothing more than the Oculus is needed.

It lighter than my surge … seriously don't have a 22 can and waiting for that for this build was time prohibitive. Agree it is abit over kill but it is what it is!

Same with me, I've done all the above along with adding the superb BScar 2 stage trigger. The missing link is the fitted barrel if you want to get on board with the group buy. If so, you could sell the Lilja here or on RFC in about 5 minutes.
