Hi all; did some searching (a lot) but I wasn't able to determine if my concern really has an answer, so I'm posting in hopes I can get some input?

I recently bought a CZ455 Varmint Tacticool as a trainer and had it out to the range this past holiday weekend for the first time.

Everything went well, but I had one oddity; I could not cycle unfired rounds. The round would be trapped in the breech unless I fired it; once I did, it would extract and eject perfectly. But any attempt to extract it prior to firing would be in vain. I tested it just a little bit ago again at my workbench, and I just could not get the bolt to pull the round out of the breech. It took some finessing with a dental pick to get the unfired round to slide out. (does the round normally enter the throat so quickly and get wedged in on these barrels?)

When I searched through on extraction issues, all I found was the mods to correct the poor 'flat' angle of the extractor hook. But what struck me as odd, was that my bolt face area has what appears to be two 'holder' hooks, instead of a holder plus a sharp pointed extractor. Is this normal? Did my rifle get put together on a Friday afternoon where someone grabbed two of the same part instead of one of each type of hook? Wondering if CZ changed something in their production line along the way?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

First, yes, a match chamber will cause non-match ammo to stick the bullet in the throat. That was the case with my lilja barrel on the Sako Quad.
next, your bolt is normal. My 455 Tacticool bolt looks just like that.
As for a production change, all I can say is that my nine year old 452 Varmint in 17HMR has the same dual extractors.

Two extractors is normal for a 455. Ejection occurs when the bottom of the empty brass
contacts the top rear of the 22lr spacer or if shooting 22wmr/17hmr the top of the bolt guide.
Cycle the bolt slowly and watch how it works.

When you removed the unfired round, was the bullet engraved by the rifling? Some cci ammunition is known for having the driving band more forward than others which will makes them engage the rifling. Have you tried other ammo as I'm pretty sure your problem would go away.

Thanks, everyone. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with two of these type of extractors then. Ejection work perfectly on fired brass, which is nice. The problem is only on chambered, unfired rounds not being extracted from the chamber. I think shoot and dj hit the nail on the head.

dj, yes, it was definitely engraved on the first ring. No, I hadn't tried any other ammo yet, but that's an obvious point I completely forgot to check. I'll dig some other brands out and try it out the next time I'm at the range. (unfortunately, probably not until next weekend) As you probably concluded from the photo, I've been using CCI SV for the time being. I have much lower quality plinker ammo that I can chamber a few rounds with, but it's junk like Remington Golden Bullet and Federal Spitfire so I didn't really want to bother firing it through the CZ.

Will follow up once I find out what other brands of ammo do. :)
