CZ 457 MTR Accuracy

My optic will be here tomorrow. My 457 MTR is brand new. Once I get the optic mounted I'll set out back and put a few hundred rounds through it then shoot for groups. I'll come back here and post them. Bad thing is all I have right now is CCI SV, Federal SV Gold Medal Match, and Eley Target.

I got a small opportunity to get out with the 457 MTR today. I didn't have enough time to shoot a lot of rounds through it like I really wanted before trying for groups. I went ahead and shot some groups with just the CCI because I said I'd follow up in this thread. I was short on time and the weather was changing quickly. I started out by just shooting CCI at steel and getting my 50yd zero set on this new optic. The rifle had 100 previous rounds shot through it(50 Federal GMM and 50 Eley Target). I put another 75 of CCI through it before shooting these 6 groups of 5. By this time I was getting consistent 10mph winds with some gusts of at least 20mph at the cold front was coming in. Keep in mind that this rifle was brand new. I've never ran a patch down the barrel despite shooting different loads. That's probably a mistake. I probably should've cleaned in between and then shot 50 rounds of the different load. After these 6 groups I have a total of 205 rounds on the rifle. Still haven't ran a patch down the barrel. I'm sure it'll settle a bit more after another 6-700 rounds. I have the action torqued at 20in/lb front and back. I haven't even began to mess with torque values to see how it affects accuracy. All these groups were CCI standard velocity

I shot this with my cz 457 varmint at 50 yards.

Took the MTR out again today. I cleaned the barrel with some Hoppes #9 and ran patches down it till they came out white. Had 205 rounds through it, put 35 rounds of Eley Target downrange on steel, then 9 five shot groups. I'll say that this Eley Target is slightly better than CCI SV but not by much. I'll be ordering some Center X and Wolf match extra when businesses get going again. Now a total of 285 rounds through the MTR. Group #1 was 0.535 without the flier, 0.626 with it. Group #2 was 0.372 without the flier, #5 was .498 without the flier and #9 was 0.504.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say based some of these groups that the rifle will shoot considerably better with much higher quality ammo and getting more rounds down the barrel in general. The barrel probably won't start to settle till around 1000 round mark. I'm loving the rifle though

Mine loves SK Rifle Match and SK Pistol Match

For all the 457 MTR .22 owners out there, what accuracy are you getting at 50 yards ?

USBR 50yd target got 2 scores of 241 4x out of 2 USBR targets shot. One was preperation for the match and the other was in a match 2 days ago.
It shot great before bedding and great afterwards, too!
Midas plus ammo
Chinese 60x scope
Beefed up Sinclair f class bipod
Rear Protektor bag with steel shot inside
~4oz trigger
Polished chamber and bore to 1/4 micron

NAS 78 said it. tkdninja is doing it. Get some true match type ammo and see your groups cut in half. Literally. With rimfire ammo it is very true - you get what you pay for. (mostly) :)
Yes, this mudas plus has been lot tested by Daniel Cliff at the Lapua test facility through a Remington 597 Jarvis 16 in barrel with a benz chamber. The whole rifle was clamped in his vice and he tested maybe 10 lot numbers of Center X and 10 lot numbers of Midas Plus. Of course I chose the best one that shot out of the Benz chamber, and it shoots much better out of the 457 MTR match chamber and barrel.
I'm waiting on saving more money and for them to call me back so I can have this rifle lot tested. I have have been waiting for a month now for them to get back to me.
Who else has usbr scores with their MTR or any rifle?

I took mine out for its maiden voyage last week. Someone here (I’m thinking it was NikonNut) sold me an Area 419 30 MOA rail for a CZ457 so I had to get an MTR to mount it on. I like to put a few hundred rounds through a rifle before I do any accuracy testing. I did however shoot a 6x5 using SK Standard Plus for what’s and giggles.

I put 30 rounds of CCI Sv through it then shot the middle and left targets in the pic with it. It was a moderately windy day FWIW. The last group of the day (bottom right on the 6x5 target) was the best group. This was with the stock, unadjusted trigger BTW. I have since changed out the spring and adjusted it. It feels pretty nice now and I think it will make a good difference in group size.

Looks like your off to a good start, I am sure the wind did not help you at all. The MTR I had would do lows 3s average with a good lot of Center X.....

Did your MTR shoot like that at the start or did you break it in first? My other CZ’s seemed to do better after a few hundred rounds. If it shoots as well as my 452 American I’ll be content with it, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

It pretty much did, seemed to improve slightly as I fired it, probably put 3500 rounds thru it. Its a lot about the ammo as you know. I bedded mine after a bit, slight improvement there.

When you say "you cleared" do you mean you shot a 2500? If so, good job. My best is a 2400 along with a 2335. I won the match with those 2 cards.
Yeah 2500. I didn’t get to plug it, but looking through the scope I didn’t see any obvious line breakers. I probably couldn’t do it on command or with the pressure of competition.

Finally got some time to shoot some groups with the CZ457 MTR PT. Velocity Test and group size, everything is factory on the rifle. It definitely liked the SK Rifle Match better than the CCI SV. 100yds, 5 shot groups, 1250 elevation, 78 degrees F, winds 5-8 mph.

Very first time out, brand new 20.5” CZ MTR on KRG Bravo. I only shot 5 foulers prior, first row on left is literally the 6th shots in this barrel (Aside the one from cz). Threw in the budget federal automatch from Walmart for comparison. I always count my flyers. I plan to do this after every 200 rounds or so.

Prior to the MTR, I had the 24.5” that came with the American model, was no where grouping like this even after 500 rounds. Real happy with the MTR for the first outing.

Glad you mentioned the diamond polish. Have found it useful “On a VFG pellet”

Oops, left out the most important info, it was 50yd.
although I don’t doubt I can get this at 100yd after I find the ammo it likes and getting more rounds through it. I have shot group like this at 100 on other 457 MTR with the right ammo.

Looking good! What did your test target look like?

I shot my Pumpkin Spice VPT MTR rifle for the first time today. I shot two shots at 25 then shot this target at 50 yards. I went from right to left in vertical columns. The far right rows were first, shot with CCI SV. It seems decent so far. It was pretty windy.

You’ll love it, it’s a great little gun and I’ve gotten .3” groups at 50yards with mine. Haven’t had a chance to get eley, sk, or lapua ammo through it, but it seems to like federal Gold Medal Match and CCI standard
