CZ 527 Carbine

There seems consensus that the CZ 527 Carbine bolt throw requires very high scope rings. Is this mitigated by using the Varmint stock instead of the factory Carbine stock? Any custom options that offer an adjustable cheekpiece?

Has anyone done caliber conversions that obtain 0.25-0.50 moa accuracy?

My gunsmith uses one wit the full lenght stock, and as far as i know everything on it is factory stock he did not mention any problems with it, he was a CZ dealer years ago and after closing shop he still stuck to them as personal hunting rifles... I'll give him a call tomorrow morning to see if he had to modify anything and update to this thread.

Thanks. The very high scope rings cause a difficult cheek weld on the standard stock. If he has a fix, it should catch on like wildfire.

Get a calhoun or crt replacement bolt handle, and you can mount a scope lower

That Calhoon modification looks pretty slick. I would like to handle one first hand. It certainly appears to address one of the very few negative issues of the slick little carbines.

I bought a 527 carbine in 7.62x39 and converted it to 6 RAT (necked-down, blown-out 6.5 Grendel) by chambering & fitting a 24" Krieger 8tw #3 sptr bbl to mine. It had such an attractive stock (lots of tigerstripe figure in the Turkish walnut stock) that I just bedded it back into that stock and left it at that. Did install a Rifle Basix trigger kit to replace the single set trigger, and am very pleased with it set at 1.25lbs. This is set up as a lightweight walking hunter, for which purpose the OEM stock works about as well as anything else I've seen available.

However, if I had gone with a little heavier contour bbl, and was considering doing any prone/position shooting, I'd look seriously at the B&C synthetic stock.

My little 6 RAT rifle will shoot pretty impressive groups with just about any good 6mm bullet - up to & including the Berger 105 Hybrid.

I have a bunch of brass,a reamer for 17-6.5 Grendel AI, the go and no go gauges, form dies and 1000 30gr Golds waiting. Just looking for the right platform to build off of.

Anybody in AZ want to trade a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 for a 527 in 17 Rem let me know. Or pretty much any boltgun with a PPC bolt face.

There is a thread here on the Hide by a fellow who is documenting his 6mm FAT RAT process. What an agony to produce each treasured piece of brass!

Fireforming RAT brass is about as easy as it gets - I just run a 6.5 Grendel case into the RAT FL die, then load it. Only consideration is making sure the FF load is stout enough to produce fully formed cases with sharp shoulders. I use S85BTHP, H87BTHP or B90BTHP most often, and get accuracy plenty good enough for match use.

I didn't care for the OEM set trigger - mine was kinda crunchy when un-set, and not all that great when set. The Rifle Basix has an extremely clean, sharp break, and could be adjusted for a heavier pull if desired. As it is, it compares favorably to the Jewell HVRs I have on most of my other rifles.

I did use the CZ rings - they give good bolt handle clearance on the objective bell of the Sightron Big Sky 4.5-14x44 scope that I used. True, they are a bit on the tall side, but that would only be a consideration when shooting prone. Since this was intended to be a light walk around varmint/hunting rifle, what's most important to me is scope alignment when the rifle is quickly brought to the shoulder while standing. In that respect, the factory rings are nearly perfect. I just got the little CZ out of the closet and brought it up to look through the scope several times - that reminded me of why I'd left the OEM rings on it.
