I'm looking to build up a 22 fun gun/trainer to be similar to my comp rifle. It's between a 457 pro varmint or ruger American 22lr target. I've heard the cz is a tack driver as it sits and has pretty good aftermarket support but I've heard good things about the ruger as well along with decent aftermarket support. If I go with the Cz I can run the same chassis I have on my comp rifle and itll be a clone minus the trigger, but for the price of the Cz I can drop the ruger into a Boyd's adjustable stock and throw a timney trigger in it.

Good to know, I've heard great things about the new trigger being leaps and bounds better then the old one and the fact I know krg will be doing a chassis option for it for should of made this an easy decision.

I’d heard rumors about a 457 Bravo but yeah that would seal the deal for me too for a trainer (same chassis as my full size long range rig would be awesome).

I think I’ll put together a .22 trainer next year as I’ve always wanted a really accurate bench .22 and I’ve got a spare SWFA 12x that’s needs mounting on something, ha.

I am interested in more input on this comparison.

Both rifles have pros and cons would be interesting to see if either has a real accuracy edge not based on reputation.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have handled both but haven’t shot either yet.

    Ruger Target
    Pro’s
    1. 60* bolt throw (very smooth action on the one I’ve handled)
    2. 10/22 magazines
    3. Aftermarket trigger (timney)
    4. Threaded from factory
    5. Thumbhole stock is pretty comfortable

    Cons
    1. No quick barrel change option but gunsmith can put on another barrel for you.
    2. After market support is low for things like chassis
    3. No Lightwieght barrel option or 17hm2 option
    4. Bolt knob is fixed on there

    CZ 457
    1. Barrels from 455 work on them (Lilja, wpbc, etc...)
    2. 60* bolt throw
    3. Adjustable trigger
    4. Traditional safety
    5. Aftermarket stocks and chassis (many are coming out)
    6. CZ 455 mags work in it
    7. Can go from 22lr to 17hmr pretty easy
    8. Lots of aftermarket bolt knobs you can put on yourself

    Cons

    1. More expensive
    2. Bolt isn’t as smooth because of the laser engraving on the bottom

    It’s a tough decision.

FWIW if you do get the ruger and it doesn’t shoot well there is a gunsmith in Michigan I think that has rebarreled them and they seem to shoot much better.

I went with the CZ 457 ProVarmint. It has absolutely been a tack driver from the moment I put the first mag in. Love the new adjustable trigger. I really like the new action and mine is very smooth with no slop at all....actually much smoother & tighter than the Ruger I looked at. The cost difference wasn’t that big. It took me about 30 seconds to select the CZ over the Ruger.

Just ordered the CZ 457 pro varmint 22.

I have a Vortex PST gen2 3-15 in Seekins low rings ready for it.

Edit: I originally considered a 25 moa rail, but I think a 0 MOA rail will do.

The only one I am finding is the DIP unless there is one I am missing. If I am, please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks
