Cz457 varmint for nrl22 base class?

Ok guys… in the hope to not start another beat a dead horse discussion. I tried the search function and really didn’t find what I was looking for.

My wife and I are jumping into the 22 rimfire matches next year. So, my question is for the guys that are currently shooting these matches….. or previously have? What are your thoughts on using the cz 457 varmint as a base platform? The cost point is mostly why I’m leaning this way. And…. My wife is left handed. And essentially I’d like for both of us to be running identical platforms.

I have a 457 MTR setup as a base class rifle that works great! I would look into finding a MTR to get you started.

Trust me! I’ve contemplated the mtr!

Biggest issue is price! And, they don’t make the mtr in a left handed variant.

I’ve got a T1X that is now in an ACC. Probably over 30K through it. In the factory stock for quite a while. Feeding issues from new depending on how I run the bolt. Large vertical dispersion at 200 with the factory barrel. Factory barrel is glued in and thermal fit. Buy a CZ.

I say this time and time again buy and build the rifle you want to shoot. Don't do it to stay in a devision classification. If you want an MTR then get an MTR. Then buy your with whatever variant of CZ she likes in the Left handed version. She will be shooting in Ladies Devision and you will be in Open or Base depending on rifle and scope combo cost.

You will be way happier buying a MTR over a Varmint.

All my rifles are left handed so I have the CZ and Tikka T1x for base class but I have been using my Bergara B14r in open class. All shoots well with the right ammo but Bergara takes the cake. Don’t get hung up on Base class over Open because the scope makes a huge differences seeing small targets better.

Im in a similar boat and think I agree.

I like the T1x, enough to rebarrel it rather than sell it and buy a CZ457 (which I considered), but if I were buying new I think I'd go CZ.

If nothing else the CZ comes in more configurations depending what you want. There are many models that are match ready out of the box, whereas the T1x either needs a chassis/stock replacement or modification to make it match ready.

If you go T1x the factory stock isnt bad but you really need a normal recoil pad, vertical grip, and likely a cheek riser.
You could go for the UPR instead but to solve these issues but it's more money upfront.

If you gonna go that route then a Bergara B14r is the way to go as it will out shoot both CZ and Tikka and you can get a much better trigger in it without effort.

base class is for fools

don't let it influence how you setup your gun(s)...nobody cares about your rifles classification or (frankly) your score at the end of the day...except you.

prize table swag isn't going to be worth living with a rifle you don't like, until you are in such good form as a shooter you will probably be on your 2nd or 3rd rifle.

Point being is its not an 'easy' way to get that good results. The best way to get good is (regardless of amounty spent) buy rifle you like, that fits good, that you can afford to feed quality ammo.

Then go shoot...alot !

The advantage of the CZ 457 is definitely the scalability of the platform based on the amount of aftermarket upgrades.

Whatever gets you out to a match competing faster is the route to go with the CZ’s.

If you’re just casually doing this for fun and to spend time together, grab the Varmint today and go get signed up for your next match in base class.

I started with a basic 457 American and then slowly started upgrading it little by little each month as I became more and more interested and committed to competing. Im now at a place where it can hang with any of the RimX’s or Vudoo’s easily based on my skill level and upgrades to the rifle.

Base class is a great place to start for someone just getting started…the Cz will allow you to be successful in that class and have the ability to upgrade it should you decide to truly compete in open class.

another vote for the 457 varmint

I shoot base class locally and open class nationally

put your extra money towards good ammo(Anything Lapua, Eley Match or tenex, top level RWS stuff)

and in the mean time, save up for an open gun if you feel you want to compete more
