Damn stand by to spend....

great.....CMP 1911......just what my wallet needs

Throwing-Money-Away.png

Posting a lot from my phone lately. I'm not technically advanced enough to go searching for gifs and pics when the opportunity comes to mind in a post. I have figured out my phone works wonders for doing that when I took the pic with it. It's a Moto-Z Hassy cam.

The skunk was about as cute as it gets...as long as you don't get on the wrong end of him. He was just a baby. In the foreground of the pic you can see the top of a maple leaf. He is about a foot and a half back from it. His body is the size of my palm.

So, I must speak to you about your punctuation. Damn deserves to have an exclamation point after it. "Damn!, Stand by to spend...." That would attract more of us "Moths" to the flame.;). Instead of trying to figure out what you mean:rolleyes::D. (I knew what you meant)

I cant wait to see the prices. I'm guess they will start between $750 and 1000. Probably closer to the 1000 mark. But hey, that's what allows the CMP to fund their programs.

I have a nice M1911A1, I hope I can skip over the ones to be offered, but I'm not sure I will be able to. I bought a lot of crap I don't know what to do with or have time to shoot already. Do I really need another M1911A1?

Un-related, any one know how to mount a Periscope from a Sheridian on a M1 Garand.

But as I think about it, Slaves get what they need, Free Men get what they want.

How would one of these compare to a modern production 1911? I started a new thread about seeking my 1st 1911 and now that I see this it has my interest.

First of all its probably 50/50 this will actually happen. If the Hillercow had got in it would have had zero chance of happening so things are optimistic.

So if you want a 1911 for certain Id go with new production and than you will have a bird in hand while hunting two in the bush.

These GI pistols, though great, may not have completely hardened slides. The earlier they were built them more so this may be an issue.

During WWII, which will likely be the bulk of guns available, the front of the slide was hardened as well as areas like the slide stop cut. They will likely outlast the number of rounds I would fire through them but still it would be better to not have one of these be your daily duty range gun.

My intent is to buy one and keep it in its rebuilt form as an example of a GI .45 fielded in the last century. I will shoot it.

I want a second one with a Colt lower and the lower will become the basis of a MEUSOC build.

For carry I have a couple Commanders from 1968 and the mid 70s that do that job and these wont be replacing them.

For your first 1911, don't bother going all historical and stuff... We love them, but we're fundamentally nuts.

Look for a 1980's Colt Gold Cup or National match. Series 70 ok. Series 80 also ok. But even if you overpay a bit by Gunbroker standards. I guarantee that if you shop a bit, you won't overpay. There are bargains out there.

Shoot the living pi** out of that. Then start thinking about historical or older pieces. The series 70 and Series 80 guns are stone bargains. And anything that is a Gold Cup or National Match is a double bargain. Start with an accurate, though not-yet-in-collectible-status steal... and get happy shooting it. Then look for some of the older examples or the rarer ones. The late production guns are great, but don't get any 'cred among collectors, yet.

Nothing interests me but accurate and historical pistols. The later Colt GC and GCNM's from this era fit both categories.... accurate and historical. And are underpriced.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the vintage section. All the good sex and violence of SH happens here. Great people, too. We don't let just anyone in ;-) Just 'sayin.

Cheers,

Sirhr
