Daniel Defense LPK vs other brands. Worth extra $?

I'm looking at LPKs and found three at various prices.

Bushmaster for $50

CMMG for $55

Daniel Defense for $80


I've used CMMG and like it but haven't used a Bushy or DD before. I know the Bushy is popular and so is the DD. But is the DD worth $30 more then the other two?
Building an AAC 300 Blackout.

I'm going to say no. I have used several brands of LPKs including DD. The only difference I have noticed in any of them is that the safety lever is smoother in some. I can't recall the trigger in the DD being any better or worse than the others. After the safety, trigger, and bolt catch all you are left with are springs, detents, and pins. There really isn't going to be much difference in those parts.

I say go with whatever is cheapest and upgrade the trigger later on or send it off to Bill Springfield.

In my experience the dd trigger is definitely better than the cmmg trigger. If you're going to upgrade the trigger then it may not be worth the extra money.

This exactly. In a DD kit, you are paying extra for the trigger. It is better than any of the standard kits I have tried. However, if you are going to upgrade the trigger no point in getting it.

The DD kit also comes with a Magpul "enhanced" trigger guard, if you are into that.

No. they all use spring from the same co. I would get a good RRA or Bushmaster kit. Save the money and upgrade the triger.

The best parts kits I have used have come from Palmetto...........and they are the cheapest!

Every LPK I've bought I swapped out triggers so far. I've also swapped out the hammer and trigger springs with Superior Shooting Systems.
This time I elected to try a stock trigger in the Daniel Defense. I don't plan on swapping the springs but my AGP lower has a take up screw to reduce creep/ shorten the trigger pull. I'm looking at building a light weight AAC 300 Blackout with a 14.5" barrel or my first KISS carbine. I'm pretty sure the Daniel Defense trigger will work just fine for this build. Besides for over a year I've wanted to experience first hand wether Daniel Defense lives up to it's name.

I'm a big fan of DD LPKs. I've used them on all my builds, 223 and 308. I wouldn't pay $80 for one though. You can usually find them for less than $70.

Del ton and RRA work well. DD was fine as well, but not sure about the added cost.

For a while now, I've found the Stag LPKs to be the best bang for the buck. Believe me, I'm no fan of Stag and love DD, but in terms of bang for the buck in LPKs, the Stags are pretty good.

Personally, I'd call someplace like PKFirearms or Ranier and have them put a LPK together for me using the parts that I want, to include the grip, trigger and trigger guard. Not having to spend money twice is the best bang for the buck.

Check out gandrtactical.com. He pieces kits together with what he believes are the best pieces. I think some of the catches are LMT. And you can get the kit with or without grip/trigger/etc. So you can get just what you want.

My experience was the polar opposite. The kit I got from Palmetto was inferior in every way to the other kits I've used. The bolt catch was definitely out of spec and even the roll pins and springs seemed to be of lesser quality than what I've received from other manufacturers.

I decided to try a Palmetto kit after hearing some good things and noticing the low price but I came to the conclusion I got what I paid for. After doing some follow-up research I came to the ultimate conclusion that they are hit-or-miss with the quality of their parts kits. I heard from folks who had good experiences with the quality of their kits, like BB&G, and I also found plenty who had experiences like mine. I wasn't willing to roll-the-dice again.

I've actually had very good experience with DPMS kits (I know, I know: '<span style="text-decoration: underline">D</span>oesn't <span style="text-decoration: underline">P</span>ass <span style="text-decoration: underline">M</span>il <span style="text-decoration: underline">S</span>pec') but I've found the quality of all the components in their kits to be consistently good. I've also had good luck with Stag (CMT) and Daniel Defense but I came to the conclusion that the DD kit was not worth the premium versus the other kits I've used. As with everything else in life YMMV!
