Just thought I would share this with you dads because I am a proud daddy. She bagged her first turkey (Jake) today. She almost got tired of hunting today when 4 jakes came strolling in at the last minute. They had spotted our decoys and were making their way to check our little hen (decoys) out. After me prodding her to take the shot when one had made it to 20 yards she let the 20 gauge turkey loaded with # 4 bark and dropped that turkey, just to share in the moment, I shot one of the bigger jakes at 30 to 40 yards max and dropped him too.
We breasted the birds on the back of my tailgate and ended up with a bunch of meat. We had one of the best days together and I am stoked.

Either that or one of those lightweight Benelli 20 gauges.
I want to make sure she's hooked first.

When we breasted them, they seamed to be about the same size but mine was heavier and had a much larger neck and head. Hers had the scrawniest little head I ever saw on a jake (Don't tell her I said that), it looked like it belonged to an old feeble grandpaw moses.

I shoot a 20 ga benelli pump with a Hevi-shot Hevi-13 turkey choke an Hevi-shot magnum blend shell it will put 130 pellets in a 10 in circle at 40 yards. It is light weight handles great and low recoil. Congratulations on the birds.

Re: Daughters first wild turkey kill

Congrats on the birds! I am the only one in my family who hunts, my Dad went a very amount of times with me before he passed, but that was only because I wasn't allowed by myself. Someday, I am hoping my kids/family will be into hunting, and shooting, just like I am.
