Sounds more like they piled on a huge number of charges as normal for shock value and then their case all fell apart and basically they got him on having a picture that his wife took of herself when she was 17 & I guess misleading the police about it.

There has to have been something pretty inconsistent with the whole "rape" accusations for them to have just been dropped like that.

But just keep in mind, that DAs love do to things like charge you with 100 crimes based on a single event. It's all about stacking the deck to get their best chances for a plea deal which in a win in their score book.
