First real post on the Hide.

I just purchased a Savage 10 Predator Max-1 in 260 Remington. This rifle is going to serve double duty as a Whitetail/Coyote hunting rifle as well as the occasional distance steel target shooter (800 yards max at my range).

I have about $700 burning a hole in my pocket for the glass and I am narrowing it down between 2 scopes. The SWFA FFP 3-15x42 or the demo Vortex Viper FFP HS 4-16x50 LR with XLR reticle from Cameraland for $699.

All of my current scopes are MOA based. I have 3 PSTs, 1 Nightforce NXS with NPR1, and also have the Vortex Viper mentioned above on my Grendel. All of these are MOA/MOA based scopes. I am relatively comfortable on the MOA/MOA scopes.

Obviously the SWFA would be a MIL/MIL scope. I have never handled or shot the SWFA but reviews I could find seemed very positive.

Do you think I would be making a big mistake to throw a MIL/MIL scope into the mix or should I just stick with MOA/MOA? Do you think the SWFA and Vortex scope mentioned above are comparable or is there a better choice for $700ish that I should consider?

As for mixing it up, IMHO, a proficient shooter can use either without issue. I think a mil/mil will be an opportunity to grow. Thats just me.

It just boils down to another column on your dope sheet. Then again I find wind calls much easier with mil. Wind in increments of BC x yardage will give you windage. BC = .6 wind is 6 mph yardage is 300 hold or dial .3. Wind is 12 shooting 500Y hold 1mil. (this is full value)

Now you seem to have a variety of scopes, and also first hand experience with image quality. I find it difficult to roll back in quality once I got a taste of the NF.

If it were me I would sell two of the PST's or all three and move up to a Razor, or another NF.

You can only shoot one rifle at a time.

In the end, if you are comfortable with Vortex, then stick with what you like.

Man I would strongly recommend saving a few more dollars and buying a LRHS. One just sold for $850 in the px here. That is a lot of quality and features for a little bit more dough.
