Definition of a poor PLF (parachute landing fall)

Re: Definition of a poor PLF (parachute landing fall)

Ouch, Military chutes arent the nicest descent to start with now landing on you head thats a rough day, let alone if your jumping into combat. Though the landing if he walked away from it ok, may been the least of his problems.

looks pretty typical in my experience. Jumpmasters mention all the parts of your body that are supposed to contact the ground in a cute specific order. But usually it goes feet, ass, head, rinse and repeat.

Once upon a time i got my lowering line hooked in a tree on a jump, then it snagged my leg as i went plummeting past and pulled my leg up over my head just as i hit the dirt. kindof felt like a disco dance move. pretty sure the first part of my anatomy to be re-aquainted with terra firma was my balls.

plf's have been replaced with surf turf landings about thirty years ago.....

plf's are for those that still pack a round reserve, of sport "E" rigs....

My unit was jumping into Ft.Stewart for training and I watched my 1st Sgt burn in like that right in front of me. It took everything in me not to die laughing at him....he was an ass

Re: Definition of a poor PLF (parachute landing fall)

My dad hurt his knees, and the entire stick was injured in a winter drop at (then) Camp Drum,NY in 1953. They were practicing low level drops on snow covered, frozen ground with the old T-7 chutes and a full combat load. A few were able to walk off with broken arms etc.,but most including my dad crawled off or were carried off. Turns out they were dropped at too low an altitude by a "new" pilot. Dad said they T-7 swung like hell and they all hit the ground on the first back swing.
